As a Design Engineer, you'll help deliver safe, reliable, and customer-focused electrical infrastructure that powers our communities. Working closely with the Team Lead and a collaborative team of engineers and project professionals, you'll provide technical expertise, review and guide design work, and help ensure high-quality solutions that meet industry standards, customer needs, and operational requirements. You'll also share your knowledge and support the growth of others through design reviews, feedback, and mentorship. You'll contribute to a diverse range of customer-driven projects across ENMAX Power's distribution system, including new residential and commercial services, street and traffic lighting, and upgrades to existing infrastructure. From project planning and design through construction and project closeout, you'll work with customers, consultants, contractors, and internal partners to deliver projects that support reliable service and help our communities grow and thrive. Major Responsibilities: Manage multiple concurrent customer-driven distribution projects, ensuring delivery within approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements. Lead projects through all phases of the project lifecycle, from initiation and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout. Develop engineering designs, technical solutions, and project deliverables that meet regulatory, customer, operational, and business requirements. Ensure all engineering work complies with APEGA requirements, company standards, industry best practices, and applicable legislation. Review, provide technical guidance on, and authenticate engineering work and designs as required. Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and stakeholders, ensuring requirements are understood, managed, and communicated throughout the project lifecycle. Assemble and coordinate cross-functional teams to support project planning, execution, issue resolution, and successful project delivery. Monitor, manage, and communicate project status, risks, schedule changes, costs, forecasts, and financial performance to stakeholders. Lead customer and stakeholder engagement activities, including resolving issues and acting as a first point of escalation for project-related concerns. Support capital planning activities through business case development, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering, project management, and business processes, tools, and standards. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and operational support to team members and provide coverage for senior engineering responsibilities when required. Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent. Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee in Engineering through APEGA (The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta Qualifications & Experience: In depth knowledge of the technical requirements of electrical distribution design Distribution &/or Network Cable Routing & project management experience Engineering and Construction experience in a Utility Environment Knowledge and experience with applicable electrical and Utility design codes (IEEE, CEC, AECUC, etc.) Experience with municipal and provincial permitting (eg: Utility Line Assignments) Experience with proximity agreement, crossing agreements, etc Familiarity with drafting tools – ie: Microstation, AutoCAD is an asset Knowledge and experience with PLS CADD and PLS Pole would be an asset Competencies: Exceptional communication skills; experienced and effective in interacting with both internal and external stakeholders Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills Demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience with negotiation and conflict resolution.
