As a Distribution System Planning Engineer, you'll help shape the future of Calgary's electrical grid. As our city continues to grow and the energy landscape evolves, you'll play a key role in planning the distribution system that supports future communities, emerging technologies, and changing customer needs. Working alongside a collaborative and highly engaged team, you'll influence long-term system development, explore innovative solutions, and see the direct impact of your work on the customers and communities we serve. Major Responsibilities: Develop long-term plans that support the growth, reliability, and resilience of ENMAX Power's distribution and network systems Develop and enhance planning tools, processes, and standards Lead key planning activities including load forecasting, system assessments, project justification, scope development, and integrated system planning Accountable for the identification and development of substation capacity upgrades and new substation projects. Evaluate customer connection requests and determine system modifications required to support new and expanding customer needs Provide technical guidance to customers and stakeholders regarding connection requirements Identify and estimate customer loading trends to support load forecasting, system assessment, and general system development. Update annual Load Capacity and Hosting Capacity maps Steward planning programs and projects from concept through implementation and completion Support regulatory initiatives and proceedings involving organizations such as the AESO and AUC Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA) Qualifications & Experience: 5+ years of experience in the utility industry. Sound engineering and operational knowledge of distribution utility systems. Experience with forecasting electrical load at system and feeder levels. Experience with power system assessment (N-1, N-1-1, N-2 contingencies) and development of solutions for distribution and network systems. Working knowledge of CYME (CYMDIST) software for radial distribution and secondary network systems Experience with database management, data analytics, and Python scripting to support engineering studies, processes automation, planning tools, and large dataset analysis. Understanding of project lifecycle principles and project management practices Experience with data analysis, including regression analysis, time series analysis or Monte Carlo simulation, to drive prediction, generate meaningful insight and determine risk is an asset. Experience with budget development and management, including the preparation of project justifications and business cases is an asset. Experience with interconnection studies for Distributed Energy Resource (DER) is an asset. Knowledge of the AESO interconnection process is an asset. Requirements
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering, and possess P.Eng status with APEGA. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the utility industry with knowledge of distribution systems and power system assessment is required.
