Position Summary Reporting to the Project Manager, the Drafter/Drafting Technologist is responsible for optimizing facility layouts, new construction project assisting with proprietary automation systems design, across our cold storage and warehousing infrastructure. This role is responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining highly accurate 2D engineering blueprints and 3D digital models for controlled-temperature environments, structural racking systems, material handling workflows and complex robotics. Working closely with engineering, project management, and facility operations teams, the successful candidate transforms operational concepts into precise technical plans that comply with Canadian building codes, workplace safety standards, and food safety regulations. Compensation And Benefits Hourly Rate: $60,000 – $80,000 per year Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week, guaranteed) Competitive wages Paid time off, including a paid birthday day off Group medical, dental, and vision benefits (company sponsored) Company-sponsored pension plan with employer-matched contributions Casual dress environment Company events throughout the year (summer picnic, BBQs, annual Christmas party, etc.) Friendly and supportive workplace culture On-site parking Duties And Responsibilities Design and update detailed 2D layouts and 3D models for warehouse spaces, optimizing high-density racking configurations & automation designs. Collaborate with mechanical and refrigeration engineers to integrate refrigeration piping layouts, evaporators, condensers, and under-floor ventilation systems into primary facility blueprints. Incorporate specialty warehouse infrastructure into design models, including fire suppression and industrial lighting systems Calculate exact clearances, structural spacing, and forklift aisle turn-radiuses to ensure efficient material handling workflows and equipment safety. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, external contractors, and equipment vendors to verify field dimensions and ensure designs meet practical project requirements. Review all drafts to ensure strict alignment with building codes, provincial building/fire codes, and occupational health and safety guidelines. Assist in preparing technical submittals, permit drawings, and documentation required for municipal approvals or internal capital expenditure projects. Maintain design and documentation libraries and revision histories. Prepare complete documentation packages for engineers. Verify drawings are correct to specifications, codes, and other regulations. Developing technical reports for engineers Qualifications And Skills Post-secondary diploma/degree in drafting, engineering design or related discipline. Minimum 3-5 years’ (intermediate) hands-on design experience with mechanical or structural design in an industrial setting. Certified Engineering Technologist designation or actively working toward eligibility. Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other design and modelling software; Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings Working knowledge of engineering principles and physical industrial refrigeration systems, material handling systems and applicable regulations and building codes, is preferred. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Self-motivated with proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
