Purpose of the Role Environmental Defence seeks a highly-committed Program Manager with expertise in climate finance reform to join our team and contribute to efforts to advance climate finance regulation in Canada. The program manager will play a key role in Environmental Defence’s efforts to advocate for policy that ensures Canada’s financial sector aligns with the country’s climate goals and those of the Paris Accord. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of climate finance and experience with public campaigns centered around climate and environmental goals. Duties and Responsibilities Research and produce reports and memos regarding the sustainable finance taxonomy, transition plans, and disclosure in Canada. Advance specific policies as included in Environmental Defence’s Roadmap to a Sustainable Financial System and the Climate-Aligned Finance Act. Engage in policy discussions and debates convened by public agencies, private think tanks, and civil society regarding the same. Monitor the sustainable finance policy landscape to ensure that new measures such as green bonds, transition bonds and green taxonomy don’t allow for fossil fuel investments. Support and assist in the delivery of a government relations and communications strategy on climate finance. Maintain relationships and collaborate with civil servants, elected officials, and political staffers relevant to the climate finance file. Participate in briefings, committee hearings, and other fora where climate finance policy is being debated. Produce relevant communications-ready information that can be used for blogs, video, website text, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media content, reports. Collaborate with other organizations working on sustainable finance and support the broader environmental movement in building greater literacy on climate finance and intervening in support of credible and climate aligned financial policy Monitor international sustainable finance rules and assess Canada’s best relative positioning. Advocate for Canada to advance to the cutting edge of sustainable finance policy that advances climate goals. Seek input from partner organizations during program design and act as an information source and content leader for multi-organization work as the program is executed. Requirements
