Job details
SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT, FAMILY LAW Edmonton | Hybrid | $70,000 to $90,000 base plus billing bonus Our client, a well-established family law firm with offices across Western Canada, is looking to add an experienced Legal Assistant to its Edmonton team. This role will support a small group of lawyers and play an important part in keeping files organized, deadlines on track and day-to-day matters moving efficiently. The successful candidate will be someone who is comfortable taking ownership of their work, managing competing priorities and providing reliable support in a busy legal environment. The firm places a strong emphasis on professionalism, collaboration and client service. Legal Assistants are supported by both the lawyers they work with and a dedicated people leader, with regular check-ins and additional support available when workloads increase. What you will do Draft and prepare court documents, correspondence and memos; file and serve in the Court of King's Bench and Provincial Court. Run the court calendar: diarize deadlines, schedule hearings, questionings, mediations and arbitrations, set up video links. Build binders and prepare materials for mediations, arbitrations and questionings. Field client calls and emails, take instructions and keep clients informed through difficult moments. Daily time postings, monthly billings and accounts receivable follow-up for your lawyers. Keep files organized in Unity (formerly EsiLaw). Own the room while the office is small: printing, courier, meeting tech. There is no receptionist yet. What you bring Five or more years as a legal assistant in an Alberta law firm, and the confidence to keep two lawyers organized and push back when needed. Family law experience strongly preferred. Wills and estates, civil litigation or real estate backgrounds welcome if you can learn family procedure fast. Criminal and personal injury backgrounds are not a fit. Working knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court and family law filing and service requirements. Comfort with time entry, monthly billing and collections. Unity or EsiLaw is an asset. Strong Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe skills. Calm under pressure, discreet, and willing to put in extra hours occasionally before a hearing or arbitration. Based in Edmonton and able to work on site. Compensation and benefits Base salary $70,000 to $90,000, with room above that for a senior candidate with real family law depth Billing bonus Legal assistants bill supervised client work at a minimum 10 hours a month, no cap Vacation Three weeks to start, plus two personal days Benefits Health and dental after three months Hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hybrid First three months in the Edmonton office, then three days a week on site Apply on LinkedIn or contact Envy Consulting Group in confidence at g.martins@envyconsulting.ca
