Job details

Part-time, 20 to 24 hours per week. Remote, based in Greater Vancouver, BC. Heavy civil estimating background preferred. Job Description Everpeak Contracting is solving the biggest problem in construction: projects get underestimated. Contractors underprice what a job will cost them to build, and owners do not know what budget to allocate, especially at feasibility. We run one benchmark cost estimating engine and onboard each client onto it with their own completed project history, cleaned and structured, so their next estimate is grounded in what their own work actually cost. Each client's data stays their own. You are a Construction Estimator who will be responsible for producing cost estimates and estimating packages covering quantity takeoffs, cost buildups for labour, supplies, materials and equipment, subcontractor solicitation, and detailed reports. You will report to the Founder and CEO. You will build the estimating engine as part of the team. You are the construction expertise in that team. You give the developers constant feedback on whether the platform's output matches how work is actually priced and built, and at times you will use AI tools to add features yourself. You will also present the platform to prospective clients, which is why this role needs someone who can hold an estimating conversation in construction language and sell at the same time. Our clients are contractors and owners working on projects of $10 million and above, across heavy civil, marine, healthcare and other sectors. Essential Responsibilities • Predicts and builds up the costs of labour, supplies, materials and equipment on construction projects, based on drawings, specifications and quotations • Prepares quantity takeoffs, detailed estimates and feasibility studies • Solicits estimates and quotations from subcontractors and suppliers. Reviews, levels and analyzes them, and provides the data supporting subcontractor selection • Prepares detailed reports on estimates and cost findings • Provides constant feedback to the development team on where the platform's cost output does not align with how work is actually priced and built, and documents every material variance • Reviews a client's invoices, estimates and project files after they have been cleaned and structured, and confirms each cost record reflects how the work was actually bought and built • Identifies errors, duplications, misallocations and miscoded line items in a client's cost history before they reach that client's estimating engine • Uses AI tools to build features into the platform directly, working alongside the development team • Applies MMCD pay item structures and BC municipal tender conventions to client records and to platform output • Presents and demonstrates the platform to prospective contractor and owner clients in construction language, and supports them through onboarding of their project history • Conducts discovery with prospective clients and reports their requirements back to the product roadmap Qualifications • A construction background, with fluency in construction language on site and in a boardroom. This role is best suited to someone who has worked as a construction estimator • 3+ years' experience in construction estimating, with ownership of estimates from solicitation through submission • Knowledge of predicting the costs of labour, supplies, materials and equipment • Experience obtaining and analyzing estimates from subcontractors • Ability to prepare detailed, defensible reports on cost findings • Thorough knowledge and understanding of construction drawings and specifications, including the ability to assess their level of completeness • Strong communication and sales background, with a demonstrated ability to present and defend an estimate or a product to a client • Strong interest in artificial intelligence and how it is evolving, and a willingness to use AI tools daily in your own work • Comfortable in a startup environment and flexible when direction changes • Based in Greater Vancouver and available for in-person meetings • Legally entitled to work in Canada Assets • Heavy civil estimating background: roads and highways, earthworks and excavation, underground utilities, site servicing • Marine construction estimating background: wharves, piling, dredging, shoreline works • Healthcare construction estimating background • Previous experience with heavy civil construction cost estimating platforms such as Procore, HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble B2W Estimate or InEight • Experience working with job cost data exported from construction accounting systems such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 CRE, CMiC or Jonas, and an understanding of where that data is unreliable • Experience preparing feasibility studies and conceptual estimates at early design stages • Owner-side or client-side estimating experience, where past projects span multiple contractors and sectors • Experience bidding BC municipal tenders through BC Bid, and familiarity with MMCD • Experience with takeoff software such as AGTEK, Beam, STACK or Bluebeam • Experience with offsite, prefabricated or modular construction scopes • Established relationships with construction contractors in Greater Vancouver Working Conditions • Part-time, 20 to 24 hours per week, with the schedule set with the successful candidate • Remote, with flexible hours • Must be based in Greater Vancouver. Regular in-person meetings, client visits and site walks across the region are required Compensation $37.00 to $47.00 per hour This is the expected hourly wage range for this role. Individual pay will be determined based on experience, knowledge, skills and estimating background. How to Apply Submit your resume to info@everpeakcontracting.com with the subject line “Construction Estimator”. In the body of your email, identify one cost item you consider consistently mis-estimated in this market, and explain why. These are reviewed first. A cover letter is required.
