Job Description The Charge Registered Nurse (Charge RN) provides clinical leadership and coordinates resident care during the assigned shift. The Charge RN is responsible for supporting safe, resident-centred care, providing clinical direction to nursing and care staff, responding to changes in resident condition, and coordinating resident admissions, transfers, returns from hospital, and discharges, including required assessments, documentation, medication reconciliation, physician/NP orders, communication, and follow-up. The Charge RN coordinates communication with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, hospitals, emergency services, residents and families, and other members of the interdisciplinary health-care team to promote continuity and safety of care. The Charge RN also oversees shift priorities, supports staff in clinical decision-making, responds to emergencies and incidents, and ensures appropriate documentation, reporting, and follow-up. The Charge RN functions within the Registered Nurse scope of practice, individual competence, organizational policies and procedures, and applicable professional and regulatory requirements.
