Reports To: Director, Commercial Growth Location: Alberta (Travel Required) About the Role The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing retail growth opportunities throughout Alberta. This individual will play a critical role in expanding our footprint through acquisitions, greenfield development, strategic real estate selection, and market intelligence. Success in this role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, exceptional relationship-building skills, commercial acumen, and the ability to identify opportunities before competitors. What You’ll Do: Growth & Acquisitions Develop and maintain relationships with cannabis retailers, commercial real estate brokers, landlords, developers, and industry stakeholders. Source acquisition opportunities before they reach the open market. Build relationships with independent store owners and evaluate potential acquisitions. Conduct initial business assessments including sales potential, competitive landscape, demographics, and financial performance. Assist with due diligence and negotiations alongside the Commercial Growth team. Maintain an active pipeline of acquisition opportunities across Alberta. Real Estate Development Identify high potential greenfield locations using demographic, traffic, and competitive analysis. Network with landlords, municipalities, and commercial real estate brokers. Present new site opportunities with supporting financial and strategic rationale. Identify opportunities to relocate, expand, or optimize existing store locations. Market Intelligence Continuously monitor competitive activity throughout Alberta. Maintain a strong understanding of Alberta cannabis retail regulations, licensing requirements, municipal restrictions, and approval processes. Track store openings, closures, and ownership changes Identify emerging markets and underserved trade areas. Provide regular market reports highlighting opportunities and competitive threats. Relationship Management Become the company's primary business development representative within Alberta. Build long-term relationships with landlords, brokers, municipalities, franchise groups, and local business leaders. Represent the company at industry events and networking opportunities. Act as the first point of contact for prospective sellers and development opportunities. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in business development Strong understanding of Alberta retail markets Existing network within commercial real estate is considered a strong asset Proven ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders Strong financial and analytical skills Comfortable working independently with significant autonomy Willingness to travel extensively throughout Alberta Valid driver's license and personal vehicle Why you’ll love working here The people who do best here are builders.
