Job summary

About the Role We’re hiring an experienced tax professional for a role that combines tax compliance with year-round tax and financial planning. During tax season, you’ll prepare and review personal and corporate tax returns for our clients. Outside of the busy filing periods, your focus will shift toward proactive planning — helping clients make better decisions around income, taxes, retirement, corporate structures and their broader financial picture. Because our accounting and wealth management service go hand in hand, you’ll have the opportunity to see how decisions made on a tax return connect to a client’s investments, income planning and long-term financial projections. Responsibilities Your responsibilities will vary throughout the year and will include: • Prepare and review personal and corporate tax returns • Develop and implement personal and corporate tax-planning strategies • Identify opportunities for income, retirement and other year-round tax planning • Review financial statements, corporate structures and prior-year filings • Work with owner-managed corporations on accounting and tax matters • Manage or oversee bookkeeping for owner-managed corporations • Prepare comprehensive financial plans and projections • Proactively identify planning opportunities rather than simply responding at tax-filing time • Help clients understand how tax and financial planning decisions affect their broader financial goals This role provides exposure to retirement-income planning, investment strategy, corporate planning and the tax implications of financial decisions over a client’s lifetime — perspective that’s difficult to build inside a traditional accounting firm. What We Offer Flexible hours and competitive compensation. We recognize that accounting and tax work has natural peaks and valleys throughout the year. During busy periods, we work hard and do what it takes to serve our clients well. During quieter periods, we believe our team should be able to take advantage of that flexibility. We offer competitive compensation that reflects the experience and expertise you bring to the role. A balance of compliance and planning. Tax returns are an important part of the role, but they aren’t the whole job. Outside of filing periods, you’ll spend more of your time looking forward — helping clients plan income, reduce taxes where appropriate and make informed financial planning decisions. Broader client relationships. Rather than seeing a client’s finances primarily through an annual tax return, you’ll have the opportunity to understand the full picture and contribute to decisions throughout the year. Exposure to financial and wealth planning. You’ll be part of conversations that go well beyond accounting and tax compliance, with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of retirement, investment and financial planning. A close, collaborative team. We communicate openly and support one another. Nobody here is left to figure out a difficult file alone — questions are welcome, second opinions are easy to come by, and when someone’s workload gets heavy, the rest of the team steps in. Qualifications • Minimum two years of relevant tax experience • Strong personal and corporate tax knowledge • Experience with owner-managed corporations • Bookkeeping and financial statement experience • Proficiency with current tax and accounting software • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Clear written and verbal communication • Strong attention to detail and follow-through • An interest in looking beyond compliance to identify planning opportunities for clients CPA qualification and exposure to financial planning, retirement-income planning or wealth management is an asset, but not a requirement. We’re more interested in finding someone who is curious about these areas and wants to broaden their expertise. This Role May Suit You If You’re a tax professional who enjoys tax work but wants your role to extend beyond preparing returns. You may be looking for more flexibility, more proactive planning work and more meaningful ongoing relationships with clients. You may also be interested in seeing what happens after the tax return is filed — how tax, income, investment and retirement decisions fit together over the course of a client’s life. This could be particularly well suited to someone who wants to continue using their accounting and tax expertise while expanding into financial and tax planning, without leaving their current career behind. To Apply Send your resume along with a cover letter to [email protected]. Only candidates selected to move forward will be contacted.
