The Role Mira is seeking an In-House General Counsel to build and lead the legal function for its growing direct-to-consumer health technology business. The role will provide legal guidance across data privacy, consumer health data, commercial contracts, marketing and advertising compliance, regulatory matters, and other legal risks associated with scaling a DTC health technology company. The role will initially begin on a part-time contract basis for 1–2 months, with the intention of transitioning to a full-time position. Key Responsibilities Privacy & Data Protection Lead the company’s data privacy and data protection strategy. Advise on compliance with HIPAA, FTC guidance, CCPA/CPRA, state privacy laws, and other applicable consumer data regulations. Advise leadership on legal risks related to consumer health data, digital health platforms, and AI-enabled features. Commercial & Corporate Legal Review and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and SaaS contracts. Establish scalable legal review processes for partnerships and other business activities. Manage outside counsel when specialized expertise is required. Help build the legal infrastructure required for a rapidly scaling startup. Marketing, Product & Regulatory Compliance Provide legal guidance on marketing claims, advertising compliance, FTC regulations, and consumer communications. Partner with Product, Marketing, and Regulatory teams to ensure claims and messaging align with applicable regulatory requirements. Support regulatory strategy and risk management for consumer health products. Establish scalable legal review processes for marketing activities and product launches. Policies & Legal Documentation Support the development of privacy policies, terms of service, and customer-facing legal documentation. Advise on legal risks related to DTC healthcare, consumer health data, digital health platforms, and applicable privacy and consumer protection requirements. Legal Function Development Build and lead the company's legal function. Develop scalable legal processes and infrastructure. Develop, implement, and maintain succession planning strategies aligned with long-term business objectives. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law. 4+ years of legal experience, ideally with exposure to healthtech, digital health, or DTC companies. Experience with data privacy and consumer data regulations, including HIPAA and CCPA/CPRA. Strong experience reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts. Experience advising on marketing claims, advertising compliance, or consumer protection law. Experience working in a direct-to-consumer (DTC) business environment preferred. Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced startup environment. ‍
