Job Description Labour Specialist Vacancy Status No: This posting is not for an existing vacancy within the organization and is open to new applications. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Oshawa Elevation Centre three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]. Role Summary The Labour Specialist at General Motors plays a critical role in supporting labour strategy across manufacturing operations. This position focuses on analyzing collective bargaining agreements, union trends, workforce data, and labour legislation to inform negotiations. This role combines data-driven research with strategic insight to help GM navigate complex labour environments and sustain operational excellence. Key Responsibilities * Conduct detailed analysis of collective bargaining agreements, past negotiations, and arbitration outcomes * Research labour trends affecting manufacturing, including wages, benefits, workforce demographics, and union strategies * Monitor and interpret changes in labour laws, regulations, and rulings impacting GM operations * Support negotiation preparation by developing data-driven insights, costing models, and scenario analysesAnalyze grievance patterns, dispute data, and plant-level labour relations metrics to identify risks and opportunities * Conduct studies designed to improve existing labour relations programs or to develop solutions to complex labour relations operating problems * Benchmark GM’s labour practices against competitors such as Ford Motor Company and Stellantis * Prepare executive briefings, reports, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership * Collaborate with HR, Legal, and leadership teams to align labour strategies with business goals * Present economic analyses to support bargaining positions and clearly explain agreement content * Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and harmonize labour practices across Canadian operation * Lead or support special labour-related projects, ensuring alignment with overall business strategy * Train and support local HR/LR teams on divisional labour objectives, insights, analytics, and strategy to ensure alignment across the organization * Vendor Management, administer GM Canada’s hourly service award program * Substance Use Disorder process management * Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications * Successful completion of a university Degree in business, HR management or any other related field. * Preferable Previous experience in employee relations or HR management is usually required as well. * Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and oral * Ability to effectively solve problems and make decisions * Listening skills as well as the ability to understand people's background * Maintaining confidentiality of work-related materials and information. * Filing and data management * Ability to manage and prioritize a diverse workload and adapt to changing priorities * Preferable +2 years of experience in similar position or related job experience. Compensation The salary range for this role is $76,100.00 to $114,300.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
