Glooscap First Nation

Glooscap First Nation (Mi’kmaq: Kluskap) is a vibrant Mi’kmaq community situated just minutes from Hantsport, Nova Scotia. Established in 1907 as Horton 35, the Nation spans approximately 171 hectares of forested land and has grown into one of Nova Scotia’s most progressive Indigenous communities. Led by Chief Sidney Peters and Council Members Amanda Francis, Gail Tupper, and Charlotte Warrington, Glooscap First Nation is guided by values of unity, accountability, and sustainable growth. Over the past decade, the Nation’s population has grown by more than 40%, reflecting a renewed sense of cultural pride and economic resilience. Through Glooscap Ventures, the Nation has become a model for Indigenous economic development in Canada, advancing initiatives in renewable energy, gaming, seafood, and hospitality, including the multi-million-dollar Glooscap Landing Business Park, home to local enterprises such as a gas bar, Tim Hortons, and community-owned businesses. Glooscap’s achievements have earned national recognition, including the CANDO Indigenous Community Economic Developer of the Year Award (2017). The Nation continues to build partnerships that promote economic self-sufficiency, regional collaboration, and social wellbeing for future generations.
