Allowances: Labrador Benefits Policy - Treasury Board Secretariat Position Details Department of Social Supports and Well-Being As part of the Innu Service Delivery Model, these positions will be responsible for providing social work services to the Labrador Innu Communities of Sheshatshiu and Natuashish as directed. Working in an Indigenous community with a diverse cultural background, the Social Worker II provides professional social work services to clients of the Department of Social Supports and Well-Being (SSWB), covering a spectrum of services and programs including Protective Intervention Services, Adoption Services, Youth Services and Community Youth Corrections, and In-Care and Residential services. The Social Worker II conducts risk and safety assessments; and provides counselling and case management for children, youth and families to address family dynamics and complex psychosocial factors. Other duties include screening, identifying and prioritizing referrals for service, developing intervention plans, consulting with other professionals as necessary, and completing documentation in accordance with professional standards of practice, and policies and procedures of the department. The incumbent prepares reports, completes legal documents and provides testimony in court as required, conducts home or agency visits, and supports community-based services; and provides leadership to other staff including Community Services Workers, Social Assistance Workers, administrative support positions and graduate/undergraduate Social Work students. Social work practice in the field of child welfare requires an ability to effectively intervene and provide support to children and families which may be in situations of crisis and emotional distress. Self-awareness and self-care are important skills sets for this position. The Social Worker II adheres to the standards for client services in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics, Social Work Standards Practice and Departmental standards. Screening Criteria 1. Completion of a Bachelor of Social Work degree 2. Experience working with children, youth and families 3. Experience working in the field of child protection (asset) 4. Completion of a Masters in Social Work with an Indigenous focus (asset) 5. Experience working with Indigenous populations (asset) Assessment Criteria 1. Cultural competency Conditions of Offer 1. Registered with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) 2. Recent and Satisfactory Criminal Record Check from local police 3. Recent and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check 4. Recent and satisfactory Child Protection Clearance Check 5. Proof of valid class 5 driver’s license Conditions of Acceptance 1. The successful candidate will be required to provide fly-in/fly-out support to clients of Sheshatshiu and Natuashish, as directed by the Employer. 2. The successful candidate may be primarily located in either location, however at any point could be re-assigned to the other location. 3. The successful candidate will fly-in/fly-out from locations within the Province. 4. There is a requirement for a flexible work schedule: 150 hours (a combination of 7.50 and 11.25 hour shifts) in a two week period, followed by two weeks off. 5. Extensive requirement for travel to different locations as directed. 6. Requirement for on-call work as required. 7. These positions are considered to be on “travel status”, therefore are not eligible for Labrador Benefits as outlined in the Collective Agreement. 8. Travel costs and co-ed accommodations will be provided by the Department. 9. This position requires the capacity to professionally manage exposure to stressful situations including confrontational and emotionally distressed situations. Requirements

Requires a Bachelor of Social Work and registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers. Experience with children, youth, and Indigenous populations is highly valued.
