An eligibility list may be created to fill current and future vacancies across the department in all communities. Reporting to the Water, Wastewater Systems Manager, the Wastewater Systems Operator maintains proper sewer flows, temperature and pressures at the Rankin Inlet Sewage Plant, Johnston Cove Lift Station, and Sewer Pipelines. The incumbent has the primary responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Hamlet of Rankin Inlet’s wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure while ensuring environmental compliance of the wastewater effluent. RESPONSIBILITIES Main responsibilities for the Wastewater Systems Operator include: * Performing daily checks on, Sewage Plants and Lift Stations * Removing solid waste from Sewage Plant and dispose of at the local landfill * Cleaning wastewater plant, including wastewater plant auger system * Collecting of sewage samples to submit to laboratory * Supervising and coordinating repairs of Sewer Mains * Following guidelines, upgrading and maintaining schedules. * Working with both technical and trades staff to improve Utilidor System QUALIFICATIONS The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through current certification for Wastewater Collections Level II or Wastewater Treatment Level II OR Journeyman Plumber c/w Wastewater Collections Level I or Wastewater Treatment Level I OR a Journeyman Plumber with a willingness to achieve either Wastewater discipline level within 12 months of being awarded the job. Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and within a year, successfully obtain a Class 3 license with air brake endorsement is required. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Wastewater Collections or Treatment Level II certification or be a Journeyman Plumber with relevant wastewater certifications. A valid Class 5 driver's license is required, with the ability to obtain a Class 3 license within one year.
