Job summary
The Animal Resource Centre - ARC, Wash Area Attendant ensures provision of clean, sanitized and sterilized equipment to the ARC facility according to departmental SOP’s. This requires the safe operation of large industrial cleaning equipment including but not limited to rack washers, autoclaves, and bedding disposal equipment. The ARC Wash Area Attendant also ensures the efficient and timely movement of equipment and supplies to the facility as well as the removal of dirty and contaminated equipment. The ARC Wash Area Attendant provides assistance with the processing of biohazardous equipment and materials to ensure that it is safely and efficiently decontaminated and cleaned. The incumbent assists in the receipt of and maintains appropriate storage facilities for equipment, feed and supplies and meeting all of the fire and safety regulations. The ARC Wash Area Attendant will also have some animal husbandry responsibilities which may involve participating in the daily health monitoring of animals and performing animal husbandry and care activities following established standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements (CCAC/OMAFRA). Animal husbandry and care activities include, but are not limited to, changing of cages and cleaning of large animal quarters. 1. Previous experience working with laboratory animals, wash area equipment, and autoclaves. 2. Demonstrated ability to work independently, excellent communication and problem solving skills. 3. Demonstrated understanding of biocontainment and biosecurity 4. Demonstrated ability to learn and operate specialized machinery (such as dump station, washers, bedding disposal system, autoclaves)
