Job details

Our client is a respected Calgary-based General Contractor specializing in commercial, light industrial, and institutional construction projects. With a strong pipeline of work and an established reputation in the market, they are seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead project delivery and drive operational excellence across the business. Reporting to senior leadership, this individual will oversee the project delivery function, providing leadership to Project Managers, Superintendents, and support teams while ensuring projects are executed safely, profitably, and to the highest standard. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who leads by example. The successful candidate will be visible, engaged, and actively involved in supporting teams, solving challenges, and driving successful outcomes across the organization. Responsibilities Lead all project operations across commercial, institutional, and light industrial projects. Provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership to Project Managers, Superintendents, and project support staff. Oversee project performance related to schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. Support project teams through planning, execution, procurement, risk management, and closeout. Establish and improve operational processes, standards, and accountability measures. Work closely with ownership to support business growth and operational strategy. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners. Assist with recruitment, workforce planning, and team development initiatives. Qualifications 15+ years of experience within a General Contractor environment. Strong project management background delivering commercial, institutional, or light industrial construction projects. Experience successfully leading multiple projects and project teams simultaneously. Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management. Ability to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day operational execution. Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills. Why Consider This Opportunity? Join a locally established contractor with a strong reputation and long-term pipeline. Play a key role in shaping the future direction of the business. Lead a talented and experienced project delivery team. Make a direct impact on operational performance, culture, and growth. We're looking for a builder of teams, not just a manager of people. Someone who has personally delivered complex projects, understands the realities of construction operations, and is willing to roll up their sleeves to support the business and those around them.
