We believe building engineering is more than systems and structures, it’s about powering progress and enabling innovation. As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you’ll help design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes the spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. From high-performance data centers driving the future of AI to dynamic commercial environments, your work will directly support technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. We bring together mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering experts to solve complex design challenges with precision, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you're optimizing energy efficiency, integrating resilient systems, or engineering the backbone of next-generation facilities, your contributions will help define the future of the built environment. This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to lead innovation, engineer impact, and build a legacy of excellence. Primary Responsibilities The primary duty of the CFD Engineer / Analyst is to aid in modelling efforts using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that will optimize building designs, deliver key insights, and solve unique and complicated challenges. At this role, the individual shall build relationships within the HDR matrix, understand where CFD modelling can be applied to solve technical problems, and assist in project execution. Specific duties include: Assisting the CFD team in delivery and project management to optimize facility design, with a focus on Data Centre modelling, and fire simulation for underground structures using Ansys Fluent, CFX, 6Sigma, and FDS. Assessing the development and deployment of computational modelling tools and capability for analysing and delivering high performance and informed building environments. Supporting proposal development for CFD scope. Preferred Qualifications An Engineering / Energy / Physics / Mathematics related bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject and desirable to have a CFD / Engineering / Physics / Mathematics related master's degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject. A minimum of 5 years of CFD modelling experience. A minimum of 2 years of modelling experience with the Cadence Reality (6Sigma), Ansys Fluent, or FDS / PyroSim software. A track record of successfully delivering projects related to: Data centre cooling and optimization Indoor temperature / thermal comfort studies Outdoor thermal comfort / UTCI studies Natural Ventilation studies Wind-driven envelope infiltration studies Outdoor air intake / exhaust separation studies Fire, Life, Safety, and Tunnel Ventilation Systems Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and team working skills. Excellent knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics enabling understanding of the appropriate application of CFD modelling in relation to transient vs steady state, turbulence model complexity, radiation, modelling of particulates / scalar transport amongst other considerations. Working knowledge of CFD software such as, ANSYS CFD Suite, Autodesk CFD, CoolSim, MicroFlo, SimCenter STAR-CCM+, IES (EMEA), FDS, PyroSim. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering or closely related field A minimum of 2 years experience Understanding of mechanical systems and controls and knowledge Ability to develop detailed energy models with eQuest or other simulation software Experience working within the architectural design process Understanding of energy-efficient commercial lighting systems Availability to travel out of state Excellent writing and documentation skills Proficient with Microsoft Office programs Ability to work in a team environment An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We Believe HDR is our company. Together, we build on each other's life experiences and perspectives to make great things possible every day.
