Job summary
The Respiratory Therapist 1 contributes to and ensures the delivery of respiratory therapy services through participation in the diagnosis, treatment and clinical investigation of clients with respiratory disease and medically related disorders. These services are provided to inpatients, ambulatory/outpatient and emergency room patients. Duties will include but are not limited to: Providing airway management duties; maintaining mechanical ventilation and client transport duties; providing general respiratory therapeutic duties; evaluating client respiratory care plans; providing various other tests and diagnostic procedures related to respiratory therapy; maintaining technical support for respiratory equipment; educating clients and staff on respiratory equipment and management of respiratory diseases; drafting correspondence, reports, and maintaining professional records; accessing respiratory status in order to treat patient accordingly and make recommendations to physicians; performing other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree with a designation in Respiratory Therapy or diploma in Respiratory Therapy preferably with experience in an acute care setting. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensing with the College of Allied Health Professionals of Prince Edward Island. Demonstrated skills in program planning and excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record. Other Qualifications: Respiratory Therapy experience in ICU and Neo-Natal care would be considered assets. Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
