Position #: 173469 Expected Start Date: To be determined Union: HSAS Facility: Buffalo Narrows Corporate Office City/Town: Buffalo Narrows Department: Dental Program Type: Full-time regular FTE: 1 Shift Information: Days Number of Hours per Rotation: 224 hours per 6 weeks Relief: No Float: No Hours of Work: Field hour Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Health Educator - Senior $39.44 to $48.226 Travel Required: Yes Job Description: Reporting to the Primary Health Care Manager, the Dental Health Educator - Senior specializes in stimulating, coordinating, and delivering prenatal/preschool oral health promotion activities aimed at reducing disease and promoting oral health for people in the community. Incumbents must have an ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams. This position will work collaboratively with Population Health Unit Dental Health Educator to ensure ongoing standard of care. The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate the delivery of an active prenatal/preschool preventive oral health education and promotion program within the dental professional’s scope of practice. The incumbent will supervise dental staff and provide management of the NW1 Dental Program. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement" Human Resources Exemption: No Experience * Experience in health promotion/prevention strategies * 3 years of experience as a dental health educator Education * Graduate from a recognized Dental Therapy program Licenses * Valid Class 5 driver's license Competencies * Advanced - Computer skills Knowledge and Abilities * Knowledge of oral health principles & their relationship to health and disease * Ability to address helath-related issues or life skills, other than oral health * Ability to work in isolated areas, as required * Ability to work in a cross cultural setting * Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team * Ability to develop and present oral health education/training to various groups * Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing. * Skills such as team building, negotiation, conflict management and group facilitation to build partnerships across professions, health authorities, jurisdictions, sectors, and with individuals, communities and other agencies; * Ability to travel on remote roads or fly in small aircraft to remote communities * Highly developed written and oral communication skills * Ability to problem solve with minimal supervision * Knowledge in Infection Prevention and Control standards Other Information * Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is the largest employer in Saskatchewan, employing more than 45,000 staff in a dynamic healthcare environment. Requirements
Candidates must be graduates of a recognized Dental Therapy program with at least 3 years of experience as a dental health educator. A valid Class 5 driver's license and registration with the appropriate licensing body are required.
