About the Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our True North team and help build and evolve Dentrix Ascend for the US market. In this role, you will design, develop, test, and deliver reliable software for a complex SaaS platform used by dental professionals throughout their day. You will work across the development lifecycle, contribute to technical decisions, resolve complex production issues, and help improve the quality and maintainability of the codebase. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating across disciplines, and supporting the growth of other developers. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, UX, and Quality partners across our distributed organization. Availability This is a hybrid role, with one day per week in our Surrey, BC office to support collaboration, brainstorming, and team connection. Our office is located across from Guildford Mall. What You’ll Do Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software for the Dentrix Ascend platform Build high-quality backend services, APIs, database integrations, and user-facing functionality Translate product and business requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions Contribute to technical design discussions and make recommendations that balance delivery, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability Write clean, secure, well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews Investigate and resolve complex production issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions Improve application performance, reliability, monitoring, and development workflows Collaborate with Product, UX, Quality, and other engineering teams throughout planning and delivery Support engineering modernization initiatives, including framework, architecture, and tooling improvements Mentor other developers through code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance Contribute to team standards and engineering practices while remaining accountable for your own delivery commitments Explore practical ways to use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and software quality What You’ll Bring 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience building complex web or SaaS applications Strong experience with Java and modern object-oriented software development Experience with Groovy, Grails, Spring, or a comparable Java-based framework Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modelling, and ORM frameworks Experience writing unit, integration, and automated tests Experience working with cloud-based applications and modern development environments Familiarity with CI/CD practices, version control, containerization, and production monitoring Experience diagnosing performance, reliability, or scalability issues in production systems Understanding of software architecture, common design patterns, and secure development practices Experience working in an Agile development environment Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a distributed team Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Nice to Have Experience with Groovy, Grails, Spock, Hibernate, or Liquibase Experience with React or another modern frontend framework Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or event-driven architecture Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or similar messaging technologies Experience with AWS and Kubernetes Experience profiling and optimizing application performance or database queries Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or similar platforms Experience working with healthcare, dental, financial, or other complex workflow-based software Our Technologies and Tools Java, Groovy, Grails React RESTful APIs Kafka, RabbitMQ PostgreSQL, Redis, MS SQL Hibernate, Liquibase AWS, Docker, Kubernetes GitLab, Gradle Jira, Dynatrace Cursor and other AI-assisted development tools Our Recruiting Process We try to make our process as straightforward as possible while giving you and us opportunities to learn about each other. Compensation and Benefits The posted range for this position is between $130,000 CAD and $142,000 CAD, which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role through to someone who is fully proficient and experienced in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range, including prior experience, training, current skills, certifications, and education. Requirements

Requires at least five years of software development experience, strong Java and object-oriented development skills, and experience with web or SaaS applications, REST APIs, relational databases, testing, and cloud-based environments. Candidates should also understand CI/CD, production troubleshooting, software architecture, secure development, and Agile practices; a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is specified.
