Hepburn Engineering Inc. is a highly-skilled engineering firm located in Toronto, ON (Etobicoke). We design and supply safe, reliable 'hoists and winches' to the mining industry, and 'replenishment-at-sea' equipment to blue water navies all around the world. As a member of the Engineering team, the Electrical Designer/Engineer will be involved not only with engineering design, but also with various aspects of the project life-cycle including project scope definition, bidding, design, testing, manufacturing support, and field service. The field service work involves the opportunity to travel globally to unique locations to perform equipment audits, installation support, commissioning and troubleshooting. Our ideal Electrical Designer/Engineer will: -Perform detailed design of control systems, including single line diagrams, electrical schematics, bill of materials and specifications for electrical equipment builds. -Develop application software, including PLC program and operator interfaces (HMI) -Select electrical system components such as motors, variable speed drives, transformers, joysticks, contactors, analogue and digital sensors, etc. -Work in a project environment in close association with electrical and mechanical design engineers to produce integrated custom-built equipment. -Participate in equipment start-up and commissioning at customer sites in Canada and around the world, ensuring compliance on all safety critical functions, and with all relevant equipment and safety codes. -Provide remote or in-person field service support, including site inspections, service contracts, and emergency shut down situations at customer sites or remotely. -Generate and review equipment documentation including operating and maintenance manuals, safety compliance reports, electrical schematics, test procedures and specifications. -Ensure standards and finalized design documentation, are maintained and controlled in compliance with company Intellectual Property rules and guidelines. -Work in accordance with Hepburn Engineering Inc. (HEI) Policies, Quality Management System (QMS) standards and procedures. -Perform all work in a safe manner and in compliance with Hepburn Engineering Inc. Health and Safety Policies and Procedures. -Travel within Canada and to customer sites internationally for approximately 15-20% of the year. Requirements: -Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or higher in Electrical Engineering. -Holds a relevant Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or working towards the designation. -Preferred 5+ years' experience in application, design, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems and HMI’s, preferably in mining or heavy equipment and industrial machinery. -Preferred 5+ years' experience in application, design, or commissioning of AC Variable Frequency Drives (VFD). -Experience working as an electrical or control and automation engineer. -Willing and able to travel and work in the field. -Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language. -Collaborative and a team player. -Strong attention to detail. -Strong analytical skills. -Strong interpersonal skills. -Motivate, able to plan and execute work to project schedules. -Familiarity with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) process applications is preferred.
