Technical Architect

Role: Technical Architect Type: 6 month contract Location: Hybrid 4x/month in Waterloo, ON Rate: $60-$65/hr JOB DESCRIPTION Insight Global is seeking a hands-on Technical Architect to support a Technology Modernization (TechMod) initiative within a leading client in the insurance industry. This program is a multi-year transformation focused on modernizing a legacy Benefits Management platform from VB6 to a cloud-aligned C#/.NET architecture while improving scalability, integration capabilities, operational efficiency, and long-term maintainability. This position is ideal for a senior technical leader who enjoys remaining close to the code while providing architectural guidance, solutioning, and design. The successful candidate will partner closely with developers, business stakeholders, and technical leadership to define solution architecture, establish development standards, drive modernization efforts, and contribute directly to application development. This is not a pure architecture role. The successful candidate should expect to spend significant time designing solutions and actively building them. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • 10+ Years of software development experience with C#/.NET • 3+ Years of technical leadership, application architecture, and solution design responsibilities • Proficiency in software development in a Microsoft environment • Azure Experience with app services, functions, storage devices, API management, Azure DevOps • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server (queries, stored procedures, optimization) • Financial services background (Insurance, Banking, Etc.) • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot. NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • Experience with large-scale modernization programs. • Microservices architecture experience. • Event-driven architecture experience. • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes). • Experience designing enterprise integration platforms.
