Job details

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AI First Sr. Android Developer based in Canada. We are seeking a senior Android developer to build, enhance, and scale innovative mobile experiences for a high-volume digital marketplace. In this role, you will develop customer-facing applications that support both buyers and sellers, contributing directly to product quality and business growth. You will help shape Android architecture, modernize existing systems, and establish best practices for testing, performance, and reliability. AI-powered development tools will be central to your workflow, enabling faster delivery, smarter debugging, and improved software quality. Working closely with Product, iOS, backend, platform, and QA teams, you will help deliver consistent, reliable experiences across platforms. This is an opportunity to combine technical leadership, product thinking, and AI-driven engineering in a collaborative, remote-first environment that values ownership, continuous learning, and measurable impact. \n Accountabilities: Design, develop, test, and release high-quality Android features across buyer and seller marketplace applications, ensuring performance, scalability, and an intuitive user experience. Lead technical decisions related to Android architecture, multi-module application structures, modern Jetpack Compose interfaces, and the integration of legacy UI components. Contribute to shared mobile platform capabilities, including authentication, OpenID Connect (OIDC), feature flags, analytics, navigation, and application-wide infrastructure. Establish and improve engineering standards through unit and UI testing, code reviews, automated quality checks, CI/CD pipelines, and production monitoring. Manage the complete feature lifecycle, from design collaboration and implementation to deployment, release monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Leverage AI-assisted coding, refactoring, test generation, debugging, root-cause analysis, and documentation to increase development efficiency while maintaining rigorous engineering standards. Mentor intermediate engineers, share technical knowledge, and promote sound engineering judgment when evaluating AI-generated code and emerging development tools. Collaborate with iOS engineers to maintain consistent product behavior across platforms and work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, platform specialists, and QA teams. Contribute to release management and distribution workflows using Google Play, Firebase, and relevant testing infrastructure, ensuring dependable production releases. Requirements: At least 5 years of professional Android development experience, or equivalent technical depth, with a proven track record of building and operating production mobile applications. Strong proficiency in Kotlin and demonstrated experience developing, releasing, and maintaining Android applications through the Google Play Store. Solid understanding of mobile engineering fundamentals, including application architecture, concurrency, networking, offline scenarios, performance optimization, and production reliability. Hands-on experience with multi-module Android architectures, dependency injection tools such as Hilt, Kotlin coroutines, StateFlow, unidirectional UI patterns, navigation, and WorkManager. Familiarity with modern Android development technologies, including Jetpack Compose and Material 3, alongside experience maintaining legacy implementations using XML layouts, Fragments, or ViewBinding. Experience with networking and persistence technologies such as Retrofit, OkHttp, and Room, as well as feature flags, experimentation, product analytics, crash reporting, and application observability. Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, release management, and production monitoring. Familiarity with camera, media, scanning, or other device capabilities is an asset. A demonstrated AI-first mindset, including regular use of AI development tools such as code copilots, AI-assisted debuggers, and test generators. You must be able to critically evaluate AI outputs, validate their accuracy, and take full responsibility for the resulting code. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, combined with a product-oriented approach and the ability to connect technical decisions to customer needs and business outcomes. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Nice to have: Experience delivering Jetpack Compose applications at scale and modernizing legacy Android codebases, including migrations from XML and Fragments to Compose or from RxJava to Kotlin coroutines. Background in wholesale, digital marketplaces, auctions, or high-volume transactional mobile applications. Experience mentoring other engineers, reviewing iOS/Swift pull requests, or supporting cross-platform technical alignment. Familiarity with BrowserStack, device farms, automated UI testing, or hybrid application experiences built with WebViews. Benefits: Competitive salary: Annual compensation ranging from CAD $125,000 to $160,000, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and other relevant factors. Retirement savings: RRSP contributions with an employer match for Canadian employees. Health and well-being: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, subject to the applicable employee benefits plan. Paid time off: Paid vacation, personal days, and sick leave. Professional development: Tuition reimbursement for eligible programs and opportunities to expand your technical expertise. Career growth: Opportunities for internal promotion, diverse career paths, and meaningful advancement within a global, publicly traded organization. Collaborative culture: Opportunities to share knowledge, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to impactful technology initiatives. Community involvement: An employer-paid volunteer day dedicated to giving back to the community. Remote flexibility: The opportunity to work remotely from Canada in a full-time position. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements.
