Land Stewardship Manager

The Land Stewardship Manager will play a key role in advancing conservation initiatives and protecting important natural areas across the country. This position is responsible for ensuring stewardship programs, conservation agreements, and land management activities align with organizational goals and environmental standards. The role combines strategic planning, risk management, policy development, and hands-on conservation expertise to support long-term ecological outcomes. Working with internal teams, external partners, and conservation stakeholders, the successful candidate will help strengthen land stewardship practices and operational excellence. The role offers a collaborative, purpose-driven environment where expertise, innovation, and thoughtful decision-making are highly valued. \n Accountabilities: The Land Stewardship Manager is responsible for overseeing conservation agreements, stewardship projects, and land management practices to ensure they support conservation objectives while minimizing operational and legal risks. The role requires strong collaboration, analytical thinking, and the ability to develop policies and processes that improve stewardship outcomes. Review and approve conservation agreements to ensure they are monitorable, enforceable, and aligned with conservation goals and organizational requirements. Monitor compliance issues identified through conservation agreement reviews and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented, documented, and tracked. Develop stewardship policies, procedures, and supporting documentation to improve program effectiveness and consistency. Provide guidance on managing responsibilities, liabilities, and risks related to protected lands and conservation activities. Ensure land uses and stewardship activities remain aligned with intended conservation purposes and external program requirements. Support annual reporting activities, including tracking key performance indicators and stewardship program outcomes. Build and maintain relationships with external partners to promote effective conservation practices and collaboration. Develop and deliver training programs while providing ongoing support and knowledge sharing to internal teams. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to stewardship operations, risk management, and conservation planning. Requirements: The ideal candidate brings a strong background in conservation, land stewardship, and environmental program management, combined with excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills. They should be comfortable working independently while collaborating with diverse stakeholders across a national organization. Post-secondary or graduate degree in ecology, conservation biology, environmental studies, or a related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent professional experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in conservation, land management, or environmental stewardship. Experience with conservation agreements, land transactions, and related conservation processes. Knowledge of land titles, property descriptions, legal agreements, and due diligence requirements. Experience managing conservation programs, projects, budgets, and organizational initiatives. Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to identify and address potential issues proactively. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions using professional judgment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, external partners, and diverse audiences. Ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate across regional and national teams. Experience delivering training or supporting learning initiatives is an asset. French language skills are considered an asset. Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while managing priorities independently.
