Job details
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Rust Backend Architect – AI Training Projects based in Canada. As a Rust Backend Architect, you will contribute your expertise to an AI training project focused on advanced backend engineering, production-grade Rust development, and complex systems architecture. You will tackle challenging technical problems involving APIs, data persistence, asynchronous processing, concurrency, performance optimization, and service reliability. Your work will help assess and validate software implementations, ensuring they meet rigorous standards for correctness, scalability, and maintainability. You will design reproducible development and testing environments, investigate complex system behaviors, and evaluate architectural decisions against real-world engineering requirements. This role combines hands-on programming with analytical reasoning and technical evaluation in an AI-focused project environment. You will work remotely, manage your deliverables independently, and contribute high-quality technical solutions within defined timelines. The ideal candidate is a senior engineer who enjoys solving sophisticated backend challenges and translating complex technical concepts into clear, verifiable outcomes. \n Accountabilities: Solve, implement, and validate complex Rust backend engineering problems involving APIs, service behavior, data persistence, concurrency, performance, and system reliability. Translate functional specifications, performance objectives, and failure-handling requirements into working implementations and reproducible testing workflows. Design, review, and evaluate backend architectures to ensure correctness, scalability, maintainability, and production readiness. Set up and maintain Rust crate workspaces, configuration files, dependency management systems, test fixtures, databases, and containerized development environments. Develop and execute comprehensive test cases covering expected behavior, edge cases, error handling, failure scenarios, and overall system reliability. Investigate and debug complex backend issues, identifying weaknesses in code, architectural decisions, and system design. Analyze asynchronous and concurrent systems to detect potential race conditions, resource contention, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks. Assess implementation quality against technical specifications, engineering best practices, and production-level standards. Produce clear technical documentation, implementation artifacts, and explanations of architectural decisions to support AI training and evaluation activities. Ensure that solutions are reproducible, technically sound, and supported by verifiable testing results. Manage assigned tasks independently, maintain consistent output quality, and meet weekly submission requirements and project deadlines. Requirements: Strong hands-on proficiency in Rust, demonstrated through substantial professional experience, research projects, or significant open-source contributions. Extensive understanding of backend service development, API design, data persistence, and production-grade software architecture. Practical experience with asynchronous programming, concurrency models, error handling, and performance optimization in Rust. Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex backend challenges involving correctness, scalability, reliability, and system performance. Experience translating technical requirements into functional implementations, reproducible test scenarios, and measurable, verifiable outcomes. Familiarity with Rust workspaces, crate organization, dependency management, testing frameworks, and backend development tools. Strong debugging skills, analytical reasoning, and the ability to break down complex technical problems into manageable solutions. Understanding of software testing principles, including edge-case analysis, failure handling, and validation of system behavior. Ability to assess architectural trade-offs and communicate technical decisions clearly, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and performance. Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to document implementation details and explain complex engineering findings in English. A high level of autonomy, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering technically accurate, well-documented work. Availability to contribute approximately 15 hours per week and consistently meet the project's minimum weekly task requirements. Ability to start within 24–48 hours after completing onboarding, with immediate availability preferred. Comfortable working remotely in a contract-based engagement with defined deliverables and deadlines. Benefits: Remote flexibility: Work remotely from Canada while contributing to an international AI training project. Specialized technical work: Apply advanced Rust programming and backend architecture expertise to challenging, production-oriented engineering problems. AI and software engineering exposure: Contribute to AI training and evaluation initiatives that involve complex technical reasoning and software implementation. Flexible part-time commitment: Work approximately 15 hours per week, subject to project requirements and minimum weekly submission expectations. Independent working environment: Organize your technical work autonomously while meeting established project specifications and deadlines. Short-term onboarding timeline: Begin contributing shortly after onboarding, with a preferred start window of 24–48 hours following completion. Engineering-focused assignments: Work on problems involving system reliability, asynchronous processing, concurrency, testing, and performance optimization. \n How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements. Our system identifies the top-fitting candidates, and this shortlist is then shared directly with the hiring company. The final decision and next steps (interviews, assessments) are managed by their internal team. We appreciate your interest and wish you the best! Why Apply Through Jobgether?
