The role facilitates the holistic development of students by integrating cultural teachings into school communities and fostering a strong sense of identity and community. The role is responsible for developing and delivering culturally relevant educational activities and professional development throughout the Division that promote the understanding and appreciation of Indigenous history, culture, traditions, and languages. Duties & Responsibilities Develop and Implement Cultural Programs to Facilitate Student Learning and Wellbeing (60%) Design and deliver educational activities that incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. Promote student wellness through cultural and spiritual guidance. Provide instruction on Indigenous history, culture, traditions and spirituality. Support students in developing a strong cultural identity and understanding of their heritage. Offer individual and group support to students on cultural and spiritual matters. Support existing programs to provide culturally relevant interventions to address the emotional and mental health needs of students. Facilitate wellness-focused circles for students experiencing difficulties. Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to promote healing practices with students. Organize and lead cultural gatherings within the Division. Collaborate with educational teams to integrate Indigenous knowledge into the existing curriculum and programs. Professional Development and Training (20%) Provide professional development workshops for Division staff on Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being. Provide guidance to staff to address the cultural needs of Indigenous students and families. Provide cultural knowledge and support Division-wide initiatives and gatherings. Support School Initiatives (10%) Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide cultural initiatives. Collaborate with school leadership to promote a culturally inclusive environment. Contribute to the development of policies and practices that support Indigenous education. Engage with the Community (10%) Build and maintain relationships with Elders, community members, and cultural organizations. Coordinate with community partners to enhance cultural programming and resources. Involve parents and guardians in cultural activities and events. Knowledge Diploma or Degree in a human services discipline. Lived experience in Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. Five years of directly related experience supporting Indigenous youth and facilitating cultural activities. In-depth understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, and languages. Familiarity with the local Indigenous community resources and networks. Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in facilitating and leading cultural activities. Ability to build and maintain rapport and trust with students, parents, Elders, educators, and the public. Effective organizational and time management skills. Competence in using educational technology and resources. Competencies Adaptability to changing educational environments and student needs. Leadership in promoting cultural awareness and understanding. Problem-solving abilities to address cultural and educational challenges. Collaboration with diverse teams, Elders and Knowledge Keepers. Requirements
