Job details
The Mechanical Design Engineer (Unitization Projects) is responsible for delivering high-quality engineering designs that support oil & gas pump repair and upgrade projects, custom pump system skid designs, and internal operations projects such as fixtures, tooling, and specialized equipment. The Engineer works cross-functionally with operations, project management, applications engineering , and clients to ensure solutions are safe, manufacturable, profitable, and compliant with engineering and regulatory standards. This role requires strong proficiency in SolidWorks, experience with structural designs and rotating equipment, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent engineering projects while producing accurate documentation, calculations, and reports. Education, Skills, and Experience Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA. Minimum 7 years’ experience in mechanical design, rotating equipment, or structural engineering role. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and associated PDM systems; ability to model complex assemblies and produce manufacturing drawings. Good To Have: Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, and industrial manufacturing environments. Knowledge of design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA). Experience with engineering calculations for mechanical, structural, hydraulic, or rotating components. Experience with failure analysis, root cause investigations, and quality processes. Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. Strong communication and cross-team collaboration abilities. Key Duties and Responsibilities Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and complete pump system skids for oil & gas applications using SolidWorks. Produce and manage engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering documentation. Perform engineering calculations related to pump performance, rotating equipment, pressure-retaining components, and mechanical structures. Support prototype development, testing, and validation of designs; analyze test data to refine engineering outcomes. Ensure designs align with manufacturability, lifting/transport requirements, and installation constraints. Develop custom fixtures, machining/assembly tooling, and process-improvement equipment for internal manufacturing or repair workflows. (Synthesized from all design responsibilities and internal operations support.) Work with operations teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and enhance design safety and efficiency. Participate in safety programs and ensure all engineering designs support safe manufacturing and operational practices. Lead or support quality investigations, including non-conformance analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Manage or participate in engineering change control and revision processes where applicable. Work closely with safety, operations, project management, quality and supply chain to ensure customer requirements are met. Provide technical input for quotations, repair scopes, and risk assessments. Prepare and review customer-facing engineering reports and documentation. Manage workload across multiple design and engineering projects, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met. Support project planning including scheduling, scope definition, and equipment/supply chain planning. If you are interested in joining Westpower, please apply today!
