As a Labourer with our Traffic Operations team, you will work a semiskilled position that requires heavy manual work. Primary duties include:
- Place and repair of a variety of traffic control devices and signs.
- Install sign poles, mark crosswalks (using paints, epoxies, cold or hot plastic, preformed tape).
- Set-up up signs and barricades for road construction.
Qualifications
- A minimum of Grade 10 education.
- At least 6 months of related general labouring experience performing physically demanding manual labour is required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending is required.
- Ability to read plans and make precise measurements will be considered assets.
- Previous experience in road construction will also be considered an asset.
- You have strong safety awareness and demonstrate work standards along with the ability to manage conflict and work as an effective team member.
- To be successful in this position you must have high standards of work, effective communication skills, strong safety awareness and the ability to work as an effective team member.
- Ability to work shifts that include weekends, evenings and night.
Working Conditions: Work is performed on streets amidst heavy vehicular traffic. This position is physically demanding, requiring incumbents to work in all types of working and weather conditions. This position involves heavy manual labour requiring the use of hand or power tools (For example: picks, shovels, heavy bars, hand drills).
Pre-employment Requirements
- Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit .
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Note: Applicants may be interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

- Compensation: $31.64 - $ 40.81 per hour
- Hours of work: Non-Standard 38 hour work week.
- Days of work: Shifts vary to provide coverage for 24/7 operations. Shifts are 9.5 hours in length.
