About the role
Business System Analyst (Specialist) Location: Calgary, AB Contract Duration: 1 year (July 27, 2026 – July 30, 2027) Schedule: Monday to Friday
Position Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Business System Analyst (Specialist) to provide technical leadership and strategic direction in data management, database technologies, and enterprise information systems. This role requires a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in business systems analysis, database architecture, data governance, and technology evaluation. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and senior leadership to support complex initiatives, optimize business performance, and ensure data management solutions align with organizational goals. This individual will be responsible for evaluating emerging technologies, developing enterprise data strategies, overseeing multiple projects, and providing expert guidance on highly complex technical and business challenges. Key Responsibilities Business Systems Analysis & Stakeholder Management Collaborate with internal stakeholders to evaluate, estimate, prioritize, and manage support, service, and project-related activities. Gather and analyze business requirements to develop effective technology and data management solutions. Provide strategic recommendations for system improvements, technology adoption, and operational enhancements. Facilitate communication between business units and technical teams to ensure solutions meet organizational objectives. Data Management & Database Strategy Develop logical and physical database models that incorporate business requirements for high availability, redundancy, disaster recovery, and data integrity. Provide enterprise-level leadership in corporate data management and data stewardship practices. Develop standards, procedures, and governance frameworks for implementing new database technologies. Apply advanced database management concepts across complex information systems environments. Ensure database solutions meet business, operational, security, and compliance requirements. Technology Evaluation & Innovation Research, evaluate, pilot, and recommend new technologies, tools, standards, and practices. Assess how emerging technologies integrate within existing corporate environments and infrastructure. Develop strategic recommendations for technology adoption and long-term system improvements. Promote innovation and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance business performance and operational excellence. Project Leadership & Delivery Lead and oversee multiple concurrent data management and technology projects. Plan, schedule, monitor, and report on project activities, milestones, risks, and deliverables. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet stakeholder expectations. Coordinate resources and technical teams to support project execution and operational priorities. Resolve complex issues that have significant business impact and require strategic decision-making. Operational Excellence & Team Leadership Provide leadership that drives continuous improvement in cost management, client service, customer relations, and operational effectiveness. Establish best practices and standards for data management and business systems processes. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Support production issue resolution and ensure timely handling of operational challenges. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 10–15 years of progressive experience in business systems analysis, database management, information systems, or related technical disciplines. Strong experience with: SQL Oracle Database Technologies Coding and technical solution development Extensive knowledge of enterprise data management, governance, and stewardship practices. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing logical and physical database models. Proven ability to solve highly complex technical and business problems with significant organizational impact. Experience leading multiple concurrent projects within large enterprise environments. Preferred Skills & Competencies Expert-level knowledge of multiple database management systems. Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and infrastructure integration. Experience with high availability, redundancy, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to influence strategic decisions and provide guidance to senior leadership. Demonstrated ability to develop new methodologies, standards, policies, and best practices. Proven leadership experience in driving innovation and operational excellence.
