About the role
Brief Description
The Campus Facilities and Security Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and operational readiness of the campus during evening and weekend hours, when support staffing is limited. This supervisory role provides leadership to security personnel, maintains facility standards, and supports both light and trade-level maintenance tasks, depending on the successful candidate’s skill set.
The position requires strong decision-making abilities, excellent communication skills, and a well-balanced understanding of both security operations and facility management needs.
Key Responsibilities
Supervisory Duties
Lead and supervise evening and weekend Security personnel
Assign tasks, monitor performance, coach staff, and maintain high service standards
Act as the campus authority figure during off-hours
Coordinate with weekday leadership for handoff any issue escalation
Complete shift reports, incident logs, and operational summaries
Ensure adherence to campus policies, emergency procedures, and facility protocols
Security Responsibilities
Conduct routine campus patrols
Monitor entrances, hallways, classrooms, and sensitive areas
Respond to incidents, disruptions, or emergencies
Support students, instructors, and visitors needing assistance
Document incidents thoroughly and accurately
Ensure compliance with campus safety and behavior standards
Coordinate with emergency services when required
Light Maintenance Tasks (all candidates)
Replace light bulbs and perform simple fixes
Address spills and minor hazards
Reset tripped breakers (with training)
Unclog simple toilet blockages
Move lightweight furniture and classroom equipment
Set up signage, cones, barriers, or safety notifications
Assist with AV troubleshooting (cables, power, projector resets)
Conduct facility walkthroughs for readiness and hazards
Campus Readiness & Operational Duties
Ensure classrooms are open, stocked, and functional
Verify common areas and washrooms are operational
Identify and record maintenance issues requiring weekday escalation
Maintain clear hallways, emergency exits, and safety routes
Oversee building opening/closing procedures as needed
Education & Experience
Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST) Certificate and valid Alberta Security License (through Alberta Solicitor General) Standard First Aid, Level C CPR, and AED certification Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in security or a related field WHMIS and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain)
OHS training — willingness to obtain is required
Skills & Competencies
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong report-writing ability Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations
