Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Early Learning and Childcare Program
The coordinator is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership to the
Program and instructing courses in the program. The role encompasses ensuring the
integrity, alignment with standards, continuity, and ongoing program excellence of the Early
Learning and Childcare certificate and diploma programs. The position requires
experience at the administrative level in the early childhood setting.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination
Operationalize provincial program standards as per requirements and best practices. Coordinate ongoing program evaluation and make recommendations to management regarding the future direction of the program. Provide support in curriculum updates and programming for the ELCC/D programs. Participate in the development of program policies and procedures, where applicable. Collaborate with the Manager of Operations on the program evaluation and review process to ensure program quality improvement. Support students and instructors in understanding curriculum requirements, course outlines, and program expectations. Conduct practicum observations, as needed. Monitor program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track progress, identify trends, and recommend strategies for continuous improvement and goal attainment. Work with existing industry partners to place ELCC/D students in practicum placements. Connect with potential practicum sites and obtain the necessary prerequisite paperwork. Assist with the facilitation of instructor practicum site observations.
Learner Facilitation
Assist Academic Support to identify students at risk and coordinate plans for these students as required; and Coordinate implementation of student success strategies, including College and program orientations, and support students in understanding and enacting academic and non-academic policies and procedures. Work with students to develop and monitor individual professional learning plans, ensuring effective implementation.
Internal and External Liaison:
Work collaboratively with cross-departmental teams as required. Coordinate and join Program Advisory Committee meetings. Liaise directly with students as their main point of contact for program-related questions or concerns. Assist with nurturing and building community partner relationships.
Course Instruction
Instruct ELCC/D program courses in both online and on-campus modalities at a maximum of 40 hours per quarter. Substitute teach for both online and on-campus classes, as required and based on availability. Training & Policies: Complete mandatory Brightspace Instructor Training within defined timelines and strictly adhere to all College policies and procedures. Course Facilitation: Review course content pre-launch, maintain a daily digital presence, and deliver high-quality, inclusive, and active learning experiences. Synchronous Engagement: Provide at least three synchronous opportunities every 20–25 course hours (including a Week 1 intro session, weekly office hours, and interactive learning sessions). Responsiveness: Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours and College communications within 48 hours. Mentorship & Boundaries: Provide academic guidance and individualized support via the Newsfeed and direct outreach while maintaining strict professional boundaries. Assessment: Submit assignment grades/feedback within 48 hours of the due date and final grades within 48 hours of course completion. Records & Attendance: Maintain an accurate gradebook, record daily attendance, and handle post-course late grading for up to 2 weeks. Collaboration: Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, curriculum reviews, and graduation ceremonies as requested. Offboarding: Complete post-course self-assessments and promptly return all College instructional materials and assets.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
Collaborate on reports for the accreditation body. Share industry insights and sector information with the MLA program operations and instructional team. In conjunction with leadership, establish quality assurance processes to ensure that instructional resources and practicum placements meet or exceed established standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct periodic audits and assessments to monitor compliance with internal policies, licensing standards, and industry regulations.

Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in ELCC, Education, or equivalent, and certified as a Child Development Supervisor with a minimum of five years of experience in an early childhood program at a senior position. Administrative experience in the ELCC field is required. A graduate degree in early childhood education, child development, child and family studies, or a related discipline is an asset A minimum of five years of experience working as an ELCC in an early childhood program at a senior position Holds an active membership with the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta and the Canadian Childcare Federation. Experience presenting at ECE conferences, serving on professional boards, and conducting research activities related to the ECE profession. Training, facilitation, instruction, coaching, and presentation experience. Sound knowledge in computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience with course development software and Learning Management Systems (D2L preferred) is an asset. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
