Shift Schedule: 4 days a week, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM with one hour unpaid lunch break

Reporting to Interdisciplinary Team Program Manager the Occupational Therapist Provide occupational therapy assessments and client-centered supports to promote independence, improve well-being, and connect clients with healthcare, community resources, funding, and essential services. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, maintain professional documentation, and contribute to BSCS outreach, emergency response, and community initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

• Lead in evaluating and addressing the occupational needs of clients, conducting assessments, and continuously monitoring individual goals. 
• Aid clients in navigating the healthcare system and attending crucial appointments, including medical consultations, income support meetings, and housing discussions. 
• Design and deliver group programming related to IADLs/life skills and mental health topics 
• Support clients in accessing necessary funding (AISH, ADPA, AB Works, NIHB, etc) through in depth assessment, documentation, and advocacy as needed 
• Support clients to access necessary equipment (gait aids, home safety equipment, etc.) 
• Adopt a harm reduction strategy, providing counsel and insights to reduce associated risks. 
•  Collaborate with health professionals and community services to ensure a holistic approach to care. · Ensure documentation of client interactions and progress. 
•  Uphold and advocate for the professional standards of occupational therapy and engage in continuous learning. 
• Mentor and supervise Occupational Therapist students during fieldwork experiences throughout the annual MScOT schedule (x4 7-week placement sessions plus x1 introductory 1-week session). 
• Act as the primary link between the University and Edmonton inner-city agencies to facilitate and coordinate student placements within other organizations. 
• All other duties as outlined by program manager.
• All staff at BSCS are expected to participate in occasional outreach and emergency response efforts (e.g., winter response) to support and engage with clients.
• BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

• Registration or eligibility to register with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapist 
• A minimum of 1 year of professional experience as an occupational therapist. Experience as an occupational therapist in mental health and/or addictions settings is preferred. 
• At least 2 years of dedicated experience working with vulnerable communities. 
• Proven proficiency in supporting individuals with mental health challenges or concurrent disorders. 
• Current Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer status is preferred. 
• Strong medical knowledge and multitasking abilities; proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
• A solid understanding or willingness to learn about trauma-informed care and harm reduction. 
• Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
• Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
• Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector completed within the past six months and kept up to date (every 3 years)
• Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months and kept up to date (every 3 years)
