The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an Indigenous Construction Participation Program Coordinator to support participants throughout active construction projects in the Edson and Hinton region of Alberta. This role combines stakeholder engagement, field coordination, participant support, safety oversight, and program administration. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for program participants, facilitating learning opportunities on active construction sites while ensuring a positive, safe, and culturally respectful experience. This position requires regular travel between project locations and extensive time spent in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and support Indigenous Construction Participation Program activities throughout active construction projects. Develop and manage daily itineraries for program participants. Transport participants safely throughout project sites and facilitate discussions regarding construction activities and environmental mitigation measures. Ensure participants complete all required onboarding, safety training, and PPE requirements before entering work sites. Act as a liaison between participants, Indigenous communities, construction teams, environmental personnel, and internal stakeholders. Support participant development by helping establish goals and conducting regular progress discussions. Attend community meetings and provide program updates, presentations, and support materials. Track participant schedules, field activities, reporting requirements, forecasting, and invoicing information. Maintain program databases and support reporting initiatives. Capture and communicate program successes, risks, concerns, and participant feedback. Support issue resolution processes and escalate concerns when appropriate. Participate in regular meetings with project teams and Indigenous Relations stakeholders to provide program updates.

What You Bring

Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills. Demonstrated cultural awareness and ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments. Experience supporting field operations, community engagement programs, environmental projects, construction activities, or related initiatives. Excellent organizational, administrative, and reporting abilities. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented approach. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, or a related discipline. Environmental monitoring training (UNBC or equivalent) considered an asset. Previous pipeline construction, environmental inspection, or field monitoring experience preferred. First Aid and WHMIS certifications considered assets.

Requirements

Valid driver's licence and clean driver's abstract. Ability to meet site-specific fit-for-work requirements, including drug and alcohol testing requirements. Willingness to work a 6-days-on, 1-day-off schedule with 10–12 hour workdays. Ability to travel and stay in hotel accommodations while rotating between Edson and Hinton, Alberta.
