Career Opportunities (sapsf.com) General Purpose The College of Engineering is seeking an experienced and collaborative Environmental Engineering Laboratory Technician to support undergraduate teaching, graduate research, and laboratory operations within the Environmental Engineering program. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise, maintain specialized laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation, and contribute to a safe, innovative, and student-focused learning and research environment. This position plays an integral role in supporting experiential learning, research excellence, and the continued growth of the College's laboratory programs. Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
Support the development, preparation, and delivery of undergraduate Environmental Engineering laboratories. Prepare, calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, analytical instrumentation, and laboratory-scale process systems. Provide technical support and training to faculty, graduate students, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate students. Support graduate research by assisting with instrumentation, experimental system setup, troubleshooting, and laboratory operations. Maintain laboratory safety and regulatory compliance through the development and implementation of safe laboratory practices, procedures, and documentation. Coordinate equipment procurement, maintenance, inventories, and laboratory resources while contributing to departmental initiatives, outreach activities, and special projects.
Requirements The successful candidate will possess:
An undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Several years of experience supporting teaching or research laboratories, preferably in a post-secondary, research, or industrial environment. Demonstrated experience operating, calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation and laboratory equipment. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, chemical and biological handling procedures, and environmental laboratory operations. Experience with laboratory-scale process systems, sensors, data acquisition systems, and specialized engineering or analytical software is considered an asset. Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. CET or P.Eng. designation, or eligibility to obtain one, is considered an asset.
