Reporting to the Manager of Mill Operations, the Mill Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of the company’s largest and busiest feed manufacturing facility, producing more than 105,000 tonnes annually of pelleted and mash hog feed. This role is accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the mill, including grain and ingredient receiving, feed production, inventory management, shipping, quality control, maintenance coordination, and staff supervision.
The Mill Manager is expected to provide strong day-to-day leadership to a growing and relatively new team by setting clear expectations, building accountability, and fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and operational discipline. A key focus of this role is to strengthen team capability through coaching, mentoring, and training, while also identifying and developing future leaders within the operation.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining a world-class site by ensuring high standards in safety, housekeeping, maintenance, and employee engagement. The Mill Manager must also bring a strong maintenance mindset to the operation, helping transition the site toward a more planned and scheduled maintenance approach that improves equipment reliability, reduces downtime, and supports long-term operational success.
Responsibilities
Lead the overall performance of the mill to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations across all areas of the site. Supervise, coach, and support mill staff while promoting accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Build team capability by mentoring employees, strengthening performance, and developing future leaders. Oversee grain receiving, batching, pelleting, mash production, loadout, and shipping to ensure product is manufactured and delivered according to specifications and timelines. Coordinate production schedules, staffing requirements, and deliveries to meet demands. Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, Feed Assure standards, and company policies. Drive improvement in maintenance execution by supporting more structured preventive and scheduled maintenance practices. Maintain the cleanliness, condition, and operational readiness of the mill, yard, vehicles, and equipment. Oversee feed quality and inventory control, including monthly inventory counts and ingredient management. Coordinate grain and ingredient procurement and scheduling to ensure consistent supply and uninterrupted production. Develop, maintain, and improve preventive programs, procedures, and systems that support operational performance. Build and maintain strong working relationships with farmers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Support employee retention and engagement by providing consistent leadership in a demanding, high-volume environment. Complete all required administrative duties, reporting, and documentation in support of mill operations. Carry out other duties as required.
