About the role
We are seeking a career-driven, passionate and energetic Sous Chef to work with us at our seafood-forward, upscale casual restaurant located at 4760 Brenton-Page Rd, Ladysmith, BC V9G 1L7
Summary:
The Sous Chef plays a critical leadership role in the kitchen, supporting in managing operations, supervising staff, ensuring food quality, and taking full ownership of the product. The ideal candidate is an independent leader who can confidently take charge during high-volume periods to maintain excellence. Dessert and Pastry experience is an asset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support in menu development, food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring consistent food preparation and plating.
- Take pride in food quality, consistency, and presentation, ensuring high standards are maintained at all times.
- Supervise, mentor, and inspire the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Provide clear direction and leadership during high-volume periods to maintain efficiency and quality under pressure.
- Manage food inventory and assist with ordering and stock rotation.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards, leading by example for the team.
- Assist in training staff on cooking techniques, operational procedures and time management
- Collaborate with the team to improve kitchen efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain a problem-solving mindset, addressing challenges with calmness and professionalism.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent.
- Culinary diploma or equivalent professional training.
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and cooking techniques, and high-volume service demands.
- Ability to work professionally in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to take initiative, lead independently, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and inspire a team.
- Passion for culinary excellence and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards.
- Catering experience is considered an asset.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $55,500.00-$60,000.00 per year
