** Principal –Kumsheen ShchEma-meet School (Lytton, BC) **
School District No. 74 (Gold Trail) invites applications for the position of Principal at Kumsheen ShchEma-meet School. The school is a kindergarten to grade 12 school, enrolling approximately 78 students, of which 92% are of Indigenous ancestry. The staff is committed to working together to meet the needs of our diverse learners through the school's Action Plan for Learning.
The successful applicant must have a basic understanding of First Nations culture, language and traditions in the school setting and ensure that Indigenous knowledge is valued and embedded into the curriculum. The successful applicant must have a proven record of fostering positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and communities through effective communication and relationship building.
The successful applicant will be a dynamic educator who has the following knowledge/skills:
- Leadership experience with elementary school programs and curriculum.
- Highly successful experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Exceptional ability in working collaboratively with students, staff, parents, Nations, and community organizations to enhance student achievement.
- Familiarity with and understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to integrate it into the curriculum or commitment to learning about the local Indigenous culture.
- Knowledge and understanding of Local Education Agreements and commitment to improving school success for Indigenous students.
- Successful leadership of innovative student achievement initiatives.
- Evidence of exemplary teaching experiences.
- Experience leading and supporting experiential, place-based and inquiry learning.
- Skill in all aspects of supervision for and of learning.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience establishing a welcoming learning environment that creates a sense of belonging for all students.
- Adept at implementing an anti-racism framework to provide a safe and caring school environment
- Understand the importance of extra-curricular opportunities for students to foster a sense of belonging
- BC Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Master's Degree or working toward completion.
The successful applicant needs to demonstrate the following qualities:
- Cultural humility; seek to understand the local ways of knowing and being.
- Produce a positive school climate by empowering others through shared decision making and supporting teaching and support staff.
- Provide effective communication to parents/caregivers and Nations in a timely, supportive manner to improve outcomes for students.
- Able to develop and build strong relationships with students, parents, caregivers and Nations.
- Be approachable, visible in school and community, a problem-solver and flexible.
- Establish and maintain clear expectations and be fair but firm.

The start date for this positionisAugust 1, 2026. The salary rangeis$161,171 to $169, 806 and School District No. 74 - Gold Trail offers a competitive benefits and pension package.
