About the role
Overview The Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for driving EHS strategy, compliance, and performance across multiple manufacturing sites in North America for the Silent-Aire business unit. This role provides leadership to site-level EHS Managers and ensures alignment with corporate objectives while fostering a Zero Harm culture. Safety Through Lean Business Systems Embed safety as a core pillar within the Lean Business System across all sites Drive structured problem solving using A3 thinking, root cause analysis, and validated countermeasures Implement tiered accountability (Tier 1–Tier 5) with safety embedded into daily tier board reviews and escalation processes Ensure visual management systems clearly communicate safety KPIs, abnormalities, and action plans Establish robust action planning with clear ownership, due dates, and disciplined follow-up Deploy leader standard work to ensure consistent safety behaviors including Gemba walks, layered audits, and engagement with frontline teams Leverage layered process audits to verify compliance and sustain standards Drive safety Kaizen events and continuous improvement aligned with operational excellence goals Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and execute North America EHS strategy aligned to corporate objectives Establish multi-year roadmaps for safety, compliance, and sustainability Own regional KPI performance (TRIR, LTIR, leading indicators) Advise senior leadership as EHS subject matter expert Multi-Site Operational Oversight Lead EHS Managers across multiple manufacturing sites Standardize EHS systems and best practices Conduct audits, Gemba walks, and leadership reviews Ensure consistent execution across all North American facilities People Leadership Coach and develop EHS Managers and regional staff Build succession plans and leadership capability Engage workforce and safety committees Regulatory & Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA, OH&S, EPA, and all other respective national regulations Oversee environmental reporting (TRI, Tier II, emissions, wastewater) Maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems Lead audit readiness and compliance processes Risk & Continuous Improvement Lead risk assessments and mitigation strategies Drive incident investigations and corrective actions Implement predictive safety tools and analytics Partner with engineering for safe design and capital projects Environmental Stewardship Drive sustainability initiatives and pollution prevention Ensure proper hazardous waste management Improve emissions, waste, and energy performance Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental, Engineering or related field 10+ years progressive EHS leadership experience Multi-site leadership with direct management of EHS Managers Strong regulatory expertise across North America Proven safety culture transformation experience Preferred CSP, CHMM or equivalent certification Experience with ISO systems at scale Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement expertise Cross-border leadership experience Scope of Role Oversight of multiple North American manufacturing sites Direct leadership of site EHS Managers Accountability for regional EHS performance and compliance #LI-Onsite HIRING SALARY RANGE: $150,000 - 180,000 CAD (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
