KEY FUNCTION:Transcribe cardiodiagnostic and respiratory studies, letters and other correspondence from verbal or recorded dictation resulting in prompt treatment and/or discharge of patients. REPORTING:Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Sudbury Cardiac Outpatient Centre. DUTIES:1. Transcribe cardiodiagnostic tests and cardiac clinic consultations.2. Transfer information from technicians’ worksheets using a multitude of templates designed specifically for each individual study.3. Provide verbal or transcribed reports for physicians and clinics as required.4. Inquire into discrepancies and/or request clarification of the dictated report with the dictating physician.5. Verify demographics, physicians, lab work and diagnostic procedures included in reports using Meditech.6. Answer phone, fax reports, create labels for mailing and file, store, and dispose of confidential files as required.7. Search for studies requested and contact appropriate physician to have study read.8. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.9. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.10. Participate in hospital training as required.11. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.12. Perform other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND TRAINING:1. Minimum of a one (1) year Diploma in a Medical Office Administration field, from an accredited college.2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required. EXPERIENCE:1. Minimum of six (6) months recent relevant dictatypist experience. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:1. Demonstrated knowledge Medical Terminology.2. Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 60 w.p.m.3. Demonstrated ability to transcribe using a computerized dictation system.4. Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.5. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.7. Ability to prioritize tasks.8. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients. PERSONAL SUITABILITY:1. Demonstrated ability to perform with minimal supervision.2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.4. Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.5. Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.6. Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.7. Ability to travel between local sites.8. Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle may be required.
