Summary of responsibilities:
The Paralegal and ATIP Advisor is responsible for assisting CATSA’s lawyers in the delivery of legal services to the organization, such as the preparation or review of documents and correspondence, conducting legal research to support corporate actions and decisions, and organizing and maintaining legal records. The position is also responsible for the operationalization of programs relating to Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP), including privacy impact assessments and coordination and processing of all requests received under Access to Information and Privacy legislation. The Paralegal and ATIP Advisor performs all other duties and responsibilities related to the position as required.
What you need to succeed
To qualify for the position, you must have:
- Successful completion of a college diploma, degree or certificate or Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in Paralegal or Law Clerk studies from a recognized institution
- Experience completing administrative work related to litigation or legal files, including drafting legal documents, and performing basic legal research.
- Experience in the review, analysis and redaction of documents responsive to ATIP requests in the federal sector.
- In-depth working knowledge and experience applying the federal Access to Information Act and Privacy Act, related TBS regulations and government policies/directives.
- Experience managing large volumes of documents and organizing and maintaining legal files
- Experience providing paralegal support of medium to high complexity on large and complex files.
- Knowledge of the Canadian legal system.
- Knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply federal legislation government policies relevant to the work
This position is best suited to individuals with the following skills and abilities:
- Proficiency in legal research databases and corporate record-keeping software
- Demonstrated experience with ATIP case management and redaction systems, such as AMANDA, AccessPro Redaction, and AccessPro Case
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Proficient in legal research and writing
- Judgment and discretion
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Valuable skills include:
- Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of access to information and privacy requests
- Experience analyzing complex issues and proposing alternative solutions by synthesizing information into a concise and cohesive summary.
- Experience providing strategic advice and preparing reports, plans, recommendations and briefing material for others, including senior managers.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to a Federal Crown corporation
Specific work requirements:
- Language Profile: BBBB;
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; and
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
