About the role
Quality Engineer
Our client, an office furniture manufacturer located in the west end of Toronto, is looking to add a Quality Engineer to their team. This position is full-time, permanent and the salary is $78,000 - $98,000 per year commensurate with the candidates’ skills, abilities and relevant work experience.
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer has overall responsibility to provide key quality process oversight within our manufacturing and assembly environments; to lead corrective action and quality continuous improvement initiatives across customer, internal, and supplier quality streams; and to achieve objectives guided by the leadership of the Company. This position is accountable to the Engineering Manager for the following key outcomes: Maintain and continuously improve the Company’s quality processes Work to drive improvement actions that positively impact quality performance Lead and enforce structured corrective actions Execute and govern Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) Establish and administer metrics related to quality and warranty performance
Experience and Knowledge Required
Post-secondary degree in Engineering (CEAB accredited or CEAB candidate or equivalent as assessed by PEO). Minimum 5 years of experience in a designated quality engineering or manufacturing engineering role within a manufacturing and/or assembly environment (Quality-focused experience required). Demonstrated ability to lead structured problem-solving (A3, 8D, or equivalent) and to verify effectiveness of corrective actions Working knowledge of SPC fundamentals and process control / prevention-based quality thinking.
Practical knowledge of calibration systems and basic metrology
Experience working within ISO-regulated quality systems; internal auditor training/certification is an asset. Strong communication skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and adept at ensuring consistent adherence to quality standards. Strong Excel skills; ability to define KPI requirements; work with IT to implement reports, dashboards. Experience with ERP systems (traceability, BOM, manufacturing records) and using system data to support investigations and trend tracking. Supplier interface experience including supplier corrective actions; audit participation and PPAP experience considered an asset.

Lead and enforce structured corrective actions (A3, 8D, or equivalent), including containment, root cause validation, corrective/preventive actions, and verification of effectiveness across customer, internal, and supplier issues.

Build and sustain a collaborative and trusting relationship with all departments within Spec. Actively support the leadership in achieving strategic priorities and executing business plans.
Customer Focus
Ensure the highest level of customer service is consistently provided in all interactions within the organization. Serve as a technical escalation resource to purchasing with regards to supplier quality, including participation in supplier audits and supporting the development and administration of a PPAP approach scaled to risk and component criticality Quality Processes and Performance: Calibration and Metrology Practices Ensure all tools and equipment are calibrated annually Continuously improve calibration discipline and metrology practices to ensure decisions are based on reliable measurements and controlled processes
