ABOUT US
Extropic Energy is an interdisciplinary engineering consulting firm. We work on projects that span electrical utility, distribution, and renewable energy work across BC, SK and AB. We're growing our electrical team and looking for someone who's ready to take real ownership of their work. Energy is complex. We built the firm to match. Modern energy problems don't fit inside a single discipline, and Extropic delivers focused, interdisciplinary engineering, including microgrids, critical environments, and digital energy advisory, for the clients and communities that need to thrive when the system is under pressure. Our Distributed Power projects provide end-to-end engineering for distributed energy systems: load forecasting, power system planning, protection, controls, and renewable integration. We design systems that operate independently when they need to and integrate seamlessly when they don't, from remote northern communities to utility-scale grid modernization programs. We're growing our electrical team and looking for someone who's ready to advance themselves in in holistic energy services.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a Utility EIT with a solid foundation in utility and distribution design work, someone who already knows the fundamentals and is ready to build on them. This isn't an entry-level training role. You'll be trusted with real project responsibility from day one, working alongside senior engineers who will support your growth toward a full P.Eng. designation.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Minimum 3 years of overall engineering experience At least 2 years of experience in electrical utility work (required) At least 2 years of experience in distribution design (required) Active EIT registration with APEGA or APEGS, or able to transfer their experience A working foundation you can build on Experience in asset management, maintenance, planning and design of substation and transmission is considered an asset. Experience in renewable power, protection and control, microgrids and energy storage is considered an asset. Power/fault flow modelling software and powerline design software are considered an asset.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who is: Grounded in the fundamentals of electrical utility engineering design and planning Curious enough to ask why, not just how. The best engineers we've worked with don't just follow a distribution design standard; they understand the reasoning behind it well enough to question it when a better answer exists. Willing to challenge convention. Distribution design carries a lot of "that's how it's always been done." We want someone who still asks if there's a smarter, more cost-effective, or better way to serve the client. Someone who owns problems rather than passing them along.
COMPENSATION
We offer a competitive salary aligned with industry benchmarks.
Health and Dental Benefits
HOW TO APPLY
Please do not apply via LinkedIn. Send your resume and cover letter to makeitbetter@extropic.ca. In your cover letter, please include a brief description of one distribution design project you've worked on: what utility or standards you designed, one technical challenge you encountered, and how you resolved it.
