Under the direction of the Regional Director, Technical Services, the Director of Application Engineering & Inside Sales is responsible for leading the customer-facing technical sales support organization across North America, integrating Application Engineering, Technical Inside Sales, and customer project coordination into a unified, high-performing commercial support function.
This role serves as the strategic bridge between Sales, Application Engineering, Manufacturer’s Representatives, Architects, Energy Modelers, and Mechanical Engineers to ensure technical excellence, responsive support, operational efficiency, and profitable growth throughout the customer lifecycle.
The Director will lead the team in developing and executing applied systems strategies for HVAC system design, leveraging expertise in building science and advanced water and airside HVAC solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of psychometrics and applied experience with VRF, fan coil, heat pipe, and chilled beam system designs. The Director will provide technical guidance and recommendations to consulting engineers while internally driving process standardization, operational efficiency, and scalable commercial solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the North America Application Engineering and Technical Inside Sales teams.
- Build a high-performance, customer-focused culture aligned with Systemair values and business objectives.
- Establish performance expectations, KPIs, workflows, and accountability measures across the department.
- Coach, mentor, and develop technical and commercial talent pipelines within the organization.
- Drive collaboration between Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Product Management, and Customer Service teams.
- Support organizational restructuring initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across customer-facing technical functions.
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, workforce planning, and operational reviews.
- Oversee technical application support throughout the sales lifecycle.
- Ensure accurate interpretation of customer specifications, drawings, codes, and performance requirements.
- Provide leadership in recommending product solutions, configurations, and technical applications aligned with customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Review and approve technical submittals, performance calculations, engineering documentation, and application recommendations.
- Support new product launches, custom applications, and technical solution development.
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering to identify product gaps, customer requirements, and improvement opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, competitor offerings, regulatory requirements, and evolving industry standards.
- Lead Technical Inside Sales teams responsible for quotation development, technical proposals, and customer support.
- Support Regional Sales Managers, Manufacturer Representatives, Business Partners, Engineers, and Customers throughout the sales process.
- Oversee preparation and delivery of complex quote packages ranging from small commercial opportunities to large-scale projects exceeding $2M.
- Ensure accurate project tracking, quote management, and opportunity pipeline visibility within CRM and MRP systems.
- Serve as escalation point for critical customer technical and project-related matters.
- Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to improve design-for-manufacturing alignment and operational scalability.
- Support digital transformation initiatives related to CRM, ERP/MRP, and HCM systems.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational efficiency.
Skills, Education, and/or Experience
- Professional Engineering degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; MBA preferred.
- Master of Engineering degree preferred.
- Previous experience in applications engineering, technical sales, sales engineering, or similar role preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience with high performance HVAC and Passive House project designs and solutions.
- Working knowledge of PHPP, WUFI and other energy modeling tools preferred
- Familiarity with product launches and design for manufacturing, HVAC industry preferred.
- Familiarity with sales, manufacturing and engineering tools, systems, and methodologies.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills required.
- Organizational and time management skills required.
- Communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical language.
- Previous experience with quality control and process improvement preferred.
- Able to work proficiently in a cross-collaboration team-oriented setting, as well as independently.

- May be exposed to loud, repetitive sounds from machinery or equipment.
