This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy Operations and is responsible for receiving, preparing and delivery of Rx accurately and timely. Ensuring adequate inventory levels to meet patient’s needs, and counsel with appropriate documentation to all patients. Provide friendly, positive and pro-active interaction with all internal and external customers as well create awareness and educate customers through public relations. As well, supervise and provide guidance and direction to staff, with the accountability of the financial and operational success of the department. The Pharmacy Manager, Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) is responsible for the overall operational, administrative, and technical management of the pharmacy, serving as the Designated Manager in accordance with Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP) regulations. This role provides strong leadership to the pharmacy team, optimizes dispensary workflow, ensures compliance with all regulatory standards and company policies, and fosters an environment focused on patient safety, efficient service delivery, and continuous improvement. The RPhT Pharmacy Manager will strategically leverage the skills of all pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, to ensure the effective delivery of patient-centered care and business objectives. Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership & Management: · Serve as the Designated Manager for the pharmacy, holding ultimate responsibility for all operational and technical aspects in compliance with NSCP regulations and Loblaw Standard Operating Procedures. · Provide strong, effective leadership, coaching, and mentorship to all pharmacy team members (Pharmacists, Pharmacy Assistants, Clerks, and other support staff). · Organize and manage workloads, priorities, and daily operations to ensure the pharmacy runs efficiently and effectively. · Prepare and manage support staff schedules, ensuring appropriate daily staffing levels and optimal utilization of team members. · Oversee the effective integration of new hires, including training, follow-up during probationary periods, and ongoing development to ensure successful onboarding. · Conduct performance reviews for Pharmacy Assistants and Clerks, providing candid feedback and critical input for mid-year and annual reviews. · Delegate tasks appropriately to team members to optimize workflow and ensure timely and efficient completion. · Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting continuous learning and professional development. · Partnering with Grocery Store Manager and Bookkeeper to hire, onboard and support unionized colleagues, using Paradox 2. Operational Excellence & Workflow Optimization: · Oversee and manage all daily pharmacy operations, ensuring efficient and accurate prescription processing, inventory management, and technical services. · Work collaboratively with the pharmacists on duty to help resolve patient issues and concerns in a timely and positive manner, utilizing outstanding customer service skills. · Conduct product verification for both regular prescriptions and compliance packaging to ensure accuracy and completeness of prescription orders. · Work with the pharmacy team to formulate, implement, and drive continuous improvement of efficient processes and best practices. · Track and manage objectives related to labour, inventory levels, professional services support, compliance packaging, and prescription growth. · Ensure the team is informed on current and new processes by participating in conference calls and holding regular team huddles to disseminate pertinent information. · Monitor and review weekly projections and labour management processes. · Ensure pharmacy conditions and standards are maintained according to the Loblaw Accountability Report, Monthly Self-Audits, and Accreditation requirements. 3. Compliance & Risk Management: · Ensure strict compliance with provincial and federal pharmacy regulations (e.g., NSCP, Health Canada) and Loblaw Standard Operating Procedures and Policies. · Complete medication incident reports and develop action plans with the pharmacy team to educate staff and prevent errors from reoccurring. · Maintain accurate and organized pharmacy records as required by regulatory bodies and company policy. · Ensure adherence to all security protocols for controlled substances and patient information. 4. Financial & Inventory Management: · Review and control costs at all levels within the Loblaw Pharmacy (dispensary). · Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and managing returns to minimize waste and optimize stock levels. · Manage and submit payroll accurately and on time each week via STAS. 5. Patient & Community Engagement (Operational Support): · Promote and support the execution of all patient care services (e.g., flu shots, compliance packaging, delivery services) by ensuring operational readiness and staff support. · Train drop-off colleagues to identify opportunities for prescription renewals and/or adaptations, MedChecks, and Pharmaceutical Opinions, and follow up on missed opportunities. · Participate in various outreach activities like physician outreach, community outreach, and community engagement activities to build the business using community-based marketing strategies. · Frequently check internal communications (e.g., "Flip" and pharmacy emails) and respond to any actionable items. 6. Professional Development: · Stay current with best practices, regulatory changes, and advancements in pharmacy technology and operations relevant to the RPhT scope of practice. Actively seek opportunities for continuous professional development. What You’ll Need · Active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP). · Demonstrated experience in a Designated Manager role, or significant leadership experience within a retail pharmacy setting. · Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician, with a proven track record of operational management and team leadership. · Strong understanding of the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists (NSCP) regulations and professional standards relevant to the RPhT scope of practice, particularly regarding Designated Manager responsibilities. · Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. · Proven ability to lead, motivate, coach, and develop a diverse team. · Excellent customer service skills and a strong sense of professionalism. · Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to formulate and execute action plans. · Proficiency with pharmacy management systems (e.g., KROLL, Healthwatch) and standard office software. · Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. · Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and quality care.
