About the role
CPA Ontario is not like other organizations
We operate at a rare intersection, both regulator and membership body, responsible for upholding the integrity of the CPA designation while supporting more than 105,000 members and 19,000 students across the province. Our work sits between business and the public interest, between the evolving demands of industry and the standards that make trust possible.
Careers built here tend to look different because the work itself is different. You are not simply contributing to an organization. You are helping shape a profession that touches nearly every sector of the economy at a moment when expectations, technology, and the nature of work are all being rewritten.
Design and lead the learning and enablement that prepares students, mentors and internal teams to succeed in the New CPA Professional Program.
About This Opportunity:
As Lead, Practical Experience & Program Enablement, you will lead the design, development and implementation of learning and enablement initiatives that support Practical Experience for the New CPA Professional Program. Reporting to the Director, Employer Relations, and working closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors, you will lead a variety of activities designed to prepare new mentors for their role in supporting students through their journey to becoming a CPA. This includes training, user adoption and enablement, and education for a new work experience reporting tool. This is an opportunity for an instructional design and adult learning expert who thrives on building programs from the ground up and is motivated by work that ensures students, mentors and internal teams are prepared and confident to report work experience in the New CPA Professional Program.
This a contract position.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design the curriculum for an online, on-demand mentor training program, defining the learning objectives, key topics, format and learner journey, and overseeing end-to-end development of materials with subject matter experts and external partners through to a tested, launch-ready program.
- Lead and execute structured user research and validation for a new work experience reporting tool, recruiting participants such as employers, mentors and students, developing discussion guides, facilitating focus groups, and presenting findings and recommendations.
- Lead training and adoption sessions for employers, mentors and students, creating supporting materials such as presentation decks, training guides and recorded sessions, and optimizing strategies based on usage and feedback.
- Develop comprehensive user manuals and clear standard operating procedures for the new work experience reporting tool, ensuring all documentation is accurate, user-friendly and aligned with program requirements.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support user readiness, onboarding and adoption through drop-in sessions, escalation support and knowledge transfer to internal teams, identifying trends in stakeholder questions to drive continuous improvement of training and resources.
To Be Successful You Need:
-
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in learning and development, instructional design or teaching, including program or project management with a training focus, ideally in complex environments supporting multiple user groups and cross-functional teams.
-
Proven ability to design and deliver online and on-demand training programs grounded in adult learning principles, with hands-on experience using e-learning tools and learning management systems (LMS) in education or workplace learning.
-
Experience facilitating user workshops, training sessions or structured feedback sessions, both virtual and in-person, with diverse audiences.
-
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly content across multiple modes of delivery, paired with strong organizational skills to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders against tight deadlines.
-
An undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent experience, with a focus in education, instructional design, adult learning or a related field. Formal training or certification in learning and development, instructional design or e-learning (e.g. ATD, CPTD or similar), and experience in professional education, post-secondary or certification programs such as CPA, are considered assets.
Salary Range
- The starting annual salary range for this position is between $82,900 - $103,700 per annum, based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
Why Join CPA Ontario?

We want those days you work from home to be comfortable and offer a one-time bonus towards a home office when you start.
- We invest in your growth through learning and professional development opportunities, stretch projects, secondments, and genuine paths for career progression.
