Operations Supervisor
About the role
Operations Supervisor
The Operations Supervisor is expected to lead and mentor their employees by providing timely support and delegating appropriate responsibilities. The supervisor also maintains a professional relationship with other staff members, schools, school boards, and drivers. This position is accountable for supervising drivers and office staff as well as other duties as assigned or detailed below.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that drivers and staff are treated in a fair and consistent manner using the guidelines and rules set forth in the handbook and policies and procedures manual
- Delegate appropriate responsibilities to reporting staff including training
- Process time off requests
- Ensure school routes and charters are covered in an efficient and fair manner
- Set up and input data accurately for driver payroll
- Help the Charter department fill charters, as needed
- Assist in answering public and driver inquiries and find solutions to concerns
- Administrative duties (such as payroll, filing, incident investigations and reports); ensure all required paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner
- In conjunction with the Assistant General Manager, monitor Safety procedures and implement corrective actions
- Ensure that safety meetings and PPG meetings, as well as any other scheduled events, are carried out regularly (as per the schedule in the driver’s handbook)
- Create/improve existing operations systems
- Stay up to date with the status of the yards fleet and bus assignment; work with maintenance to ensure that all units are maintained in a timely manner
- Keep appropriate staff informed of any major issues, changes, concerns, etc.
- Driver recruitment duties- Conducting interviews, processing abstracts, Drug and Alcohol testing, employee file creation
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Operations and supervisory experience considered an asset
- Map reading skills with a strong knowledge of the city; specifically, road systems, locations of schools, and major attractions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally while exhibiting confidentiality and diplomacy
- Knowledge and understanding of company policies/procedures
- Expertise in organizational planning and problem solving
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Hours: The shift for this position is Monday – Friday, within the hours of 6:00am – 6:00pm (start and end time will vary depending on needs). There is also a rotating on-call requirement (every other weekend) with this position.
