About the role
Location: Whitby, ON.
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has served a rapidly growing and diverse community for over 50 years. Today, the Service includes more than 1100 sworn officers and 370 civilian members. It supports a population of over 750,000 residents across the largest geographic area in the Greater Toronto Area. DRPS is committed to delivering modern, community-focused policing that reflects the diversity of the region it serves.
DRPS continues to evolve to meet increasingly complex demands. This includes advancements in technology-enabled policing, data-driven decision-making, and intelligence-led operations. To support these priorities, DRPS is seeking to appoint a Chief Information Officer (CIO).
Reporting to the Deputy Chief, Strategic & Operational Support, the CIO is responsible for the overall leadership of the IT function, including the development of enterprise-wide technology strategy, oversight of the technology services portfolio, and delivery of major technology initiatives aligned with business needs. The role provides leadership across IT governance, portfolio management, project management, information security, data analytics, and business continuity, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
As a key partner to the organization, the CIO works closely with internal stakeholders, including specialized units such as FIS and Intelligence, as well as external partners. The role builds and sustains strong relationships across the Service, ensures effective and reliable service delivery, and drives the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance operational effectiveness and organizational performance.
As an ideal candidate, you are an accomplished IT executive with a demonstrated track record of leadership in complex environments. You bring deep expertise across enterprise IT, including strategy development, governance, cybersecurity, and service delivery. You have led multi-disciplinary teams, managed large-scale technology portfolios, and successfully aligned IT functions with broader organizational priorities. An effective communicator and relationship builder, you have experience engaging senior leadership and contributing at an executive level. You are skilled at translating business needs into technology solutions and are known for your sound judgment, integrity, and accountability. You bring a collaborative approach, a strong customer service orientation, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
A university degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is required. Significant experience in IT leadership, including team management and enterprise-wide technology oversight in a complex, unionized operational environment, is essential.
