Role Description The Concrete Form Lead Hand is a full-time, on-site position based in Nova Scotia, Canada. This role oversees the daily setup, layout, and installation of concrete formwork for agricultural, commercial, and industrial projects, ensuring accuracy according to drawings and specifications. The Lead Hand coordinates and directs crew members, assigns tasks, and monitors workmanship, productivity, and safety standards on the job site. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting blueprints, organizing materials and equipment, ensuring proper reinforcement placement, and preparing forms for concrete pours. The role also involves inspecting completed work, communicating with site supervisors and project managers, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Qualifications Concrete formwork and construction skills, including experience with form setting, layout, reinforcing steel placement, and concrete pours. Leadership and team coordination abilities, such as supervising crews, delegating tasks, mentoring less-experienced workers, and promoting a positive work culture. Technical and blueprint-reading skills, including interpreting construction drawings, using measuring tools, and ensuring work meets specifications and tolerances. Safety and site management skills, including adherence to safety regulations, use of personal protective equipment, hazard recognition, and maintaining orderly work areas. Physical capability and practical skills, such as the ability to lift and carry materials, work in varying weather conditions, and operate common hand and power tools. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to report issues, coordinate with supervisors, and respond to changing site conditions. Previous experience as a concrete form carpenter, lead hand, or similar role in agricultural, commercial, or industrial construction is highly beneficial. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to various job sites in Nova Scotia and, at times, other Atlantic provinces. Formal training or certification in carpentry, concrete work, or construction trades is an asset but not strictly required for experienced candidates.
