The Role We’re seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Winnipeg-based Electrical Department. In this role, you’ll provide engineering input for projects of varying sizes, coordinate deliverables with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, and help ensure work is completed on schedule, within budget, and to high-quality standards. You’ll support project management, coordinate with internal and external clients, and help guide and mentor engineers on the team. As part of a collaborative group of engineers, technicians, scientists, and other industry-leading peers, you’ll contribute to studies, engineering designs, construction drawings and specifications, and inspections. Your primary focus will be design delivery and mentorship, with additional involvement in proposal development. Key Responsibilities Provide input to those managing and executing multiple projects (small to large) from the proposal stage through to completion Establish connections with other departments to support and enhance service delivery Work collaboratively with other disciplines and multidisciplinary project teams to execute project deliverables, as well as ensure that quality objectives, schedules, and budgets are met Mentor junior staff Manage and execute multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion; Projects will include a variety of small to large projects Prepare and review reports Perform calculations Conduct inspections and support project work on site as required Edit and prepare design drawings and specifications Conduct QA/QC reviews and facilitate the KGS’s QA/QC process Contribute to the development of the electrical engineering practice at KGS by assisting the electrical design leadership by documenting technical knowledge, improving internal production processes, coordinating and developing internal training content, and other tasks Pursue new business opportunities with existing and potential clients Perform other duties as assigned About You Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university; a post graduate degree would be an asset Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in electrical engineering with some project management skills (Tracking budgets and meeting schedules) Must be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with EGM (Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba). Registration in other Canadian provinces would be an additional asset. Previous consulting experience is preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to effectively assume a lead role as project engineer and communicate project and technical information with clients Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support are preferred Detailed Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code and other relevant codes and standards Experience working on multi-discipline projects Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements. The amount of travel time desired by our employees can usually be accommodated. Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks Have the drive, attitude and commitment to be an active participant in our employee-owned culture Experience With The Following Would Be Considered An Asset Power distribution systems up to 600V or MV level Protection systems experience, including specifying, setting and verifying (including reference to voltages) Load flow analysis, system modelling, arc-flash, grounding, and other electrical studies (including reference to software used and any training) Backup power systems (including Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Direct Current systems and fuel fired backup) Lighting (including emergency and exit lighting systems) Fiber and copper structured cable systems, and associated networking equipment PLC Automation, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) integration (including any programming experience) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) (include reference to software used and any training) Physical or cyber security planning or design Factory Acceptance Testing and/or Site Acceptance Testing Commissioning of various systems on site Other renewable energy experience Experience working with electrical utilities within Canada KGS Group is an employee-owned equal opportunity company offering an excellent total compensation and benefits package for employees. The role also calls for project management skills, consulting experience preferred, strong communication and leadership abilities, knowledge of relevant Canadian codes, and a valid driver’s license.
