Commissioning Engineer Komline Pure Water Position Summary Komline Pure Water is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support the startup, testing, and commissioning of water and wastewater treatment systems. This role will help ensure that equipment and integrated systems are installed correctly, operate safely, and meet project specifications and performance requirements. Working closely with project managers, process engineers, electrical and controls teams, field service personnel, and customers, the Commissioning Engineer will guide systems through commissioning and customer handover. The ideal candidate combines strong troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach and the ability to communicate effectively in the field. Key Responsibilities Develop and execute commissioning plans, startup procedures, inspection checklists, and functional testing protocols. Review project specifications, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment manuals, and electrical drawings to understand system requirements. Verify installation readiness, including equipment placement, piping connections, utilities, instrumentation, and required safety systems. Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT), documenting results and coordinating resolution of deficiencies. Perform and coordinate equipment startup, functional testing, and integrated system testing. Commission equipment such as pumps, valves, filters, membrane systems, chemical dosing systems, tanks, and associated treatment components. Work with electrical and controls personnel to verify instrument signals, equipment sequencing, alarms, interlocks, and control system functionality. Troubleshoot mechanical, process, instrumentation, and controls issues, coordinating corrective actions with the appropriate technical teams. Monitor system operating conditions and assist with adjustments to achieve specified treatment capacity, water quality, and equipment performance. Maintain commissioning records, test results, issue logs, and punch lists through project completion. Coordinate commissioning activities with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to support project schedules. Train customer operators on system operation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe operating procedures. Support preparation and review of operating manuals, as-built documentation, and customer handover materials. Provide feedback to engineering and fabrication teams to improve system design, installation, serviceability, and future commissioning activities. Follow site safety requirements and applicable procedures for equipment energization, lockout/tagout, pressure testing, and chemical handling. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Experience in equipment commissioning, startup, field service, or plant operations within water treatment or a related industrial environment. Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, fluid systems, instrumentation, and automated process controls. Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications. Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to systematically identify and resolve equipment and process issues. Familiarity with pumps, valves, instrumentation, and common industrial equipment. Ability to document test results, maintain accurate field records, and communicate technical findings clearly. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities in a field environment. Ability to work independently at customer sites while coordinating with internal project teams. Willingness and ability to travel to customer locations for installation support, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Professional engineering registration, or eligibility to obtain registration, as appropriate for the position’s location and responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications Experience commissioning water and wastewater treatment systems, including reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, filtration, or chemical treatment processes. Familiarity with membrane system operation, pretreatment requirements, cleaning procedures, and performance monitoring. Experience supporting FAT, SAT, performance testing, and customer acceptance activities. Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives, and industrial instrumentation. Experience with instrument calibration, control loop verification, and troubleshooting automated equipment. Experience training operators and preparing technical operating procedures. Experience working with packaged, skid-mounted, modular, or containerized treatment systems. Work Environment and Travel This position involves work in fabrication facilities, industrial plants, and customer project sites. Travel is required, and assignments may involve extended periods onsite during startup and commissioning. Work schedules may vary based on customer operations and project needs. The role requires hands-on interaction with industrial equipment and adherence to site-specific safety procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
